Alabama Scholarships helping students in need

As 2017 approaches, thoughts of the holiday season will soon give way to thoughts of the tax season. As Alabama taxpayers, we have an opportunity to direct some of our tax dollars to a very worthy cause. The Alabama Accountability Act allows taxpayers to donate some of their state income tax dollars toward scholarships to allow Alabama students in failing schools to receive a better education in local private schools. For this purpose, individuals may reserve up to 50% of their estimated income tax liability up to $50,000 and companies may reserve up to 50% of their estimated tax liability with no limit.

Holy Cross Episcopal School partners with two Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) who administrate these funds and award scholarships to students based on financial need. The Alabama Opportunity Scholarship Fund (AOSF) and Scholarships for Kids work with parents and schools to provide educational opportunities for Alabama students. This is where you can help by directing money you will already have to pay in taxes toward this program. The opportunities provided to these students can make a tremendous difference in their future. Thank you for your consideration, and have a blessed holiday season!
