Elko Speedway is partnering with the Mary Moon Foundation and Hairball for a special race night and music on Saturday July 22nd that will raise money to benefit critically ill children and their families.
The Mary Moon Foundation is in memory of three year old Mary Jacqueline O'Keefe knick-named Moon, she was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2008 and died just one short year later. The mission of this non-profit organization based out of Apple Valley (MN) is to help finance art supplies, toys and games for critically ill children and their families by providing hospitals and a children's hospice the resources to help children enjoy life however short it may be.
The entire admission price at ELKO on Saturday July 22nd will be donated to the Mary Moon Foundation who in turn supports Crescent Cove, they offer care and support to children and young adults who have a shortened life expectancy also the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital, a place that has been serving Minnesotan's and children from all around the world since it was established in 1905.
This will be a combined Racing and Music event and the schedule is different than usual. Spectator Gates will open at 3pm, drivers meeting at 3:30pm, group qualifying begins at 4pm. Opening Ceremonies will begin just before 5pm then racing in the Hornets, Eternity Homes Great North Legends, Pepsi Power Stocks, Genz-Ryan Thunder Cars and Hiway Federal Credit Union Late Models. Racing will end at 7:30pm.
Music begins at 7:45pm with Neptune Cocktail, Critically Acclaimed cover band Hairball will take the outside stage from 9-11pm, Music will continue indoors at Champions Bar with Neptune Cocktail 11pm-1am. Hairball is the most successful multi-artist tribute band in the United States, their musical talent is supplemented by the incredible sound, pyrotechnics and costumes. Many say Hairball is better than the original artist.
Admission price is $20 in advance at ElkoSpeedway.com, it is also $20 at the ELKO front gate BEFORE 5pm. After 5pm admission is $25, this is to encourage fans to enjoy the races before the music begins.
Elko Speedway is Minnesota's only NASCAR sanctioned track, it is a 3/8th mile asphalt oval with stadium seating located 30 minutes South of downtown Minneapolis just off of I-35 and County Road 2 in Elko (MN).
