Nursery Autumn term 1 2021 Our journey begins ...

What a wonderful start to the year it has been. All the children have settled into nursery with confidence and it has been a pleasure to get to know all our new families joining the school.

Sharing family books has been a great talking point between the children.

Forming friendships and encouraging the children to be confident and independent in their environment has been a focus this term.

We have shared the story 'The Colour Monster' on a regular basis over the past few weeks. This story enabled the children to recognise different emotions and be able to talk about them.
"I love riding on my Daddy's shoulders and my new friends"
"I love going to the seaside and seeing the Seaside Squad"

Over the past half term we have explored the outdoor area and developed our Gross motor skills. We learnt how to ride balance bikes, challenge ourselves by creating obstacle courses, and walk up steps to reach up high.

We have used different mark making tools to draw and paint, our grip is developing.

Dough is a firm favourite, we have been squeezing and moulding it to make birthday cakes, hedgehogs, sausages, and a variety of food for Mrs Travis and Mrs Hutchinson to enjoy.

In phonics we have been developing our listening skills. We can now identify a range of environmental sounds, discriminate between the sounds of different instruments, create our own music and talk about which sounds we do and do not like.

The Poetry Basket is a resource used in Early Years to develop the early literacy skills in our children. This half term we have learnt the poems: "Falling apples" "Chop Chop" and "Pointy hat".

Here is a video of the children performing our most recent poem 'Pointy hat'.

What does Autumn term 2 have in store...

Remembrance Day: At an age appropriate level we will discuss the importance of remembrance day. Your child will then create a poppy which will contribute to a whole school display.

In Nursery we will mark the 2 minutes silence on 11th November at 11am by watching this short clip called 'Poppies'.

The 15th November marks the start of World Nursery Rhyme week. We will be celebrating this week by engaging in activities based around these 5 nursery rhymes.

The key story in nursery next half term will be 'Dear Zoo'. This is a simple repetitive story which the children will rehearse and retell using a story map.

Run run as fast as you can...

In Nursery we may well receive a visit from a cheeky biscuit character... The story 'The Gingerbread man' will be the theme for our learning over Autumn term 2.

Here are some other festive stories that we will enjoy sharing together.

Have a wonderful half term and we will see you on Tuesday 2nd November.
