The ATLAS project is striving to improve our understanding of complex deep-sea ecosystems and their associated species, including those that are new to science. Researchers are looking to predict future changes to these ecosystems and species together with their vulnerabilities in the face of climate change.

The Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative is a global network of experts which seeks to integrate science, technology, policy, law and economics to advise on ecosystem-based management of resource use in the deep ocean.

As the main instrument supporting the implementation of the Belém Statement, the All Atlantic Ocean Initiative aims to bring together all relevant actors around the Atlantic as to build the All Atlantic Ocean Research Community, and to identify concrete collaborative research and innovation activities across a range of key areas.

The One Ocean Hub aims to transform our response to the urgent challenges facing our ocean. Its research seeks to bridge current disconnections in law, science and policy and integrate governance frameworks to balance multiple ocean uses with conservation. It strives to empower the communities, women and children, most reliant upon the oceans to inform decisions based on multiple values and knowledge systems.

Dynamic Earth is a science and cultural learning centre in Edinburgh, dedicated to engaging diverse groups of people with Earth and environmental science. Each year it provides learning experiences for more than 240,000 members of the public via a permanent exhibition and tailored STEM engagement programmes for families, schools and community audiences; it has welcomed more than 5 million visitors since opening in 1999.

Sustainable management of human activities affecting Atlantic marine ecosystems is critical to maintain its health and to support the blue economy of the bordering countries. TRIATLAS will contribute to this by delivering knowledge of the current state and future changes of the Atlantic marine ecosystems. We achieve this through a basin-wide approach that integrates research from the North and South, and that closes critical knowledge gaps in the Tropical and South Atlantic that impede an understanding of the entire basin.

The Deep Ocean Observing Strategy (DOOS) is being developed under the auspices of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), with an emphasis on observations below 2000 m and additional attention to more shallow processes and mechanisms (>200 m) that influence deeper depths.

AquaVitae aims to increase aquaculture production in and around the Atlantic Ocean by developing new species, processes and products. The focus of the project is placed on low trophic species (e.g. algae, echinoderms, shellfish), contributing to the circular economy and the Belém Statement. The project will work to create real and meaningful collaboration between researchers, industry and other aquaculture stakeholders in the Atlantic area.

The ambition of AtlantECO is to develop and apply a novel, unifying framework for providing knowledge-based resources to design policies, support decisions making and engage with citizens to encourage responsible behaviour to manage the Atlantic system and protect its Ecosystem Services (ES) provision.

Stay tunned: AtlantECO are currently undergoing grant agreement preparations.

AtlantOS supports the Atlantic basin scale implementation of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) and contributes to the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) Blue Planet Initiative. The establishment of the AtlantOS program benefited from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme project AtlantOS (grant agreement No. 633211). It’s coordination is collaboratively supported by the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance (AORA), the All AtlaNtic Cooperation for Ocean Research and innovation (AANChOR) and other national initiative around the Atlantic basin
