Knowledge for development and justice

Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) is an independent research institute on global development and human rights.

We address challenges facing poor and vulnerable groups, particularly in the Global South. The Sustainable Development Goals frame our research agenda.

We take pride in quality research, but know that change and development also depend on our interaction and dialogue with stakeholders and policy makers. We have long-term partnerships with research institutions all over the world, especially in the Global South. We are a knowledge bearer with an increasing international footprint. A growing share of our funding comes from international donors and agencies.

A recent evaluation by the Research Council of Norway praises CMI for quality and relevance, ability to understand and meet user needs, and impact on policy and practice.
