CSCSHC Community Newsletter January 26, 2018

Welcome to the new CSCSHC Community Newsletter! This bimonthly publication is intended to keep you up-to-date with all that is happening in and around the school district. We want to share all the great things our staff and students are doing in our classrooms and community. We look forward to sharing our stories of student success, achievement, participation in arts and athletics, and a commitment to philanthropy! We are "New Pal Proud" of our students for achieving their personal best in pursuit of excellence! In this edition of our newsletter, we'll be highlighting several important dates that you'll want to make sure you mark on your calendars.

Message from the Superintendent

First, I want to say thank you to all of our parents, students, and staff for their flexibility during the month of January. We have had a number of days where weather has become an issue. We always appreciate your support and patience while we make decisions each morning. As a reminder, here are the district's guidelines for closing or delaying school during inclement weather.

Secondly, good luck to all of our athletic and extra-curricular programs competing this weekend! Our Dragon wrestlers compete in sectionals at Shelbyville on Saturday. The Dragon Girls' Basketball team will play their first round sectional game on Tuesday at Connersville. The Boys' Basketball team plays at Yorktown tonight and at home against Perry Meridian tomorrow. Also, our Dragon band, choir, and color guard all compete this weekend, too! Good luck and Go Dragons!

In order to do this, we're asking all parents to please fill out this survey, which will help us determine your child and family's counseling needs. Please complete this survey by Monday, January 29th. We appreciate your time in completing this survey and value your input as we strive to improve services to our students.

SCE Grandbuddies Program

We're happy to share details about our Grandbuddies program at Sugar Creek Elementary. Through a partnership with Woodland Terrace in New Palestine, a group of our students have the opportunity to form unique bonds with residents of the retirement community.

SCE students with their Grandbuddies

Students spend a portion each Thursday playing games or chatting with their Grandbuddies. Then, they have the opportunity to read together or work together on any school projects the students may have. We want to say thank you to everyone at Woodland Terrace for embracing this program and volunteering their time to connect and engage with our students!

The Hot Horns!

Thank you to the Doe Creek Band for bringing The Hot Horns education group to our three elementary schools to teach our students about music! The students were given an introduction into what their time in band later in their academic careers might be like.

Glen Johnson from The Hot Horns teaches SCE students about making your own homemade brass instuments from some tubing and a funnel!

The group also explored the history of brass and woodwind instruments for our students and played some great music while they did it!

NPHS Spring Play auditions

Auditions for our Spring Play, William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, will be held Monday, January 29, and Tuesday, January 30 in the NPHS auditorium. No experience necessary. Bring your best attitude and most adventurous spirit as we prove what fools these mortals be and the course of true love never did run smooth!
