Pine Notes From the Office of Gift Planning at Bowdoin College

Do you know the origin story of the Chapel and the Bowdoin Pines Society?

"Following my Dad's advice, I made sure to do my estate planning and have all the components complete. Bowdoin is part of my plan."

Cheryl Coffin '75

"I lost my father when I was 20 years old, just after my sophomore year at Bowdoin. I remember so many things he taught me--like never to sign something I didn't understand or hadn't read, to be responsible with my resources, to value education. He also told me how important it is to have a will and that he had done his estate planning. This made things much easier for my family when he died. Following my Dad's advice, I made sure to do my estate planning and have all the components complete. Bowdoin is part of my plan.

I remember the pioneering aspects of being a member of the first freshman coeducational class -- the outstanding teaching and mentoring by the faculty, the excellence of the educational experience in a small liberal arts college, and the beauty of the campus in all seasons.

My planned gift provides a wonderful opportunity to serve the common good by helping to provide a high quality Bowdoin education for diverse students of varied means. I'm proud to be a member of the Bowdoin Pines Society."
