The Great Gatsby is a great book. This book is about a young bachelor named Gatsby. He is in love with a girl named Daisy, they had once dated and were going to get married but he went off to war and she ended up getting married while he was gone. A man named Nick moves in next to him and they become good friends. After a while Gatsby asks Nick to have Daisy over for tea so he can see her once again after five long years of wanting her. Seeing each other brings them back together and they become close in a very short amount of time and Daisy considers leaving her husband, Tom, for Gatsby. Tom at the same time is having an affair with a mechanics wife named Myrtle. They all get in a fight one night and Daisy gets very upset. She drives home and accidentally hits and kills Myrtle. Gatsby gets blamed for the death though. Myrtles husband is very distraught and goes and kills Gatsby at the end of the book. This book is a sad love story that ends up not working out in the end.

There are many themes in The Great Gatsby. One theme of the book is showing the moral and social decay of America. In the book people are having affairs, killing people, lying, cheating and all the people committing these bad deeds seem to not even care that what they are doing is wrong. They treat people like toys, they do not care what happens to them. The characters only care for themselves. Tom does not truly careĀ for his wife because he runs around having an affair with Myrtle. Another theme in this book is to show how the American dream is dying. Everyone with a dream in this book dies. Gatsby has a dream to live with Daisy forever and he ends up getting shot by Myrtles husband. Myrtles husband had a dream to make something of himself and treat his wife better than he was but he ends up killing himself after shooting Gatsby. Lastly, Myrtle had a dream to live with Tom and have lots of money but she ends up getting hit by a car.
