Zoning For Your Heating System

There is perhaps no better way for a contractor to provide his/her customer with a more comfortable system than by offering zoning. Figuring out all the details between selecting Honeywell Zoning Stats & Dampers can be confusing. Below please find our easy guide to help you navigate through all the choices for your customer.

Step 1

Determine what type of equipment you are zoning for. Is it a single stage furnace or multi-stage system? This will require either a single or multi-stage Zoning Panel

Step 2

Identify how many zones you will be providing for your customer

Step 3

A third parameter for determining the panel is if the stats you choose will be wired or wireless. If all stats are wired and you have a one stage furnace you only need a single stage zoning panel HZ311 (logical). If you have even a single wireless stat a multi-stage zoning panel is required.

Once these questions are answered you now can begin to Build your Zoning System!

Zoning Panels

HZ311

3 Zones, Single Stage, All Wired Stats - Automatically connects with Wifi in Customers House and can be controlled via Internet.

HZ322

TrueZONE® HZ322 Panel for conventional and heat pump applications up to 3 zones (2H/2C). RedLINK™ enabled for wireless operation when used with THM4000R1000 wireless adapter

HZ432

TrueZONE® HZ432 Panel for conventional, heat pump or dual fuel applications expandable up to 32 zones (3H/2C). RedLINK™ enabled for up to 4 wireless zones when used with THM4000R1000 Wireless Adapter
If you have a wireless stat (or 2 or 3) you will need a Wireless Interface Module (THM4000R1000 Wireless Adapter) and Gateway Module (THM6000R1002)

Wireless Adapter

THM4000R1000

Wireless Adapter for use with RedLINK™ enabled thermostats and TrueZONE™ system.

Gateway Module

THM6000R1002

Internet control of RedLINK thermostats; Up to 4 Heat/2 Cool Heat Pumps

Recap

  • Determine whether a single or two stage furnace is being used
  • Determine whether wired or wireless stats are being used
  • Determine the number of zones you will be using

Step 4: Choose your stats

Wired or Wireless? Programmable or Non Programmable? Remember You can Mix and Match. You may have a programmable Wired Stat with a Non-Programmable Wireless Stat and an Prestige IAQ all on one system.

REMEMBER - IF YOU HAVE A WIreless STAT YOU WILL NEED A TH4000R1000 WIRELESS INTERFACE
REMEMBER - IF YOU WANT TO CONTROL YOUR SYSTEM FROM THE WEB YOU WILL ALSO NEED A HONEYWELL GATEWAY MODULE.

Step 5: Choose your dampers

You have a number of different choices when it comes to dampers. Dampers have to be wired back to the HZ Control Module. You have the option of daisy chaining dampers together for ease of installation.

RRD - RETROFIT ZONE DAMPER FOR ROUND DUCTWORK

The RRD is a round damper that is easily inserted into rigid round ducts for retrofit zoning in forced air heating and cooling systems. This power open, power closed damper actuator is available in four sizes for 5 in., 6 in., 7 in., and 8 in. ducts.

ZD - ZONE DAMPER FOR RECTANGULAR DUCTWORK

The ZD is a power close and spring open damper. It has a 24-volt motor used to control circulating air in HVAC systems and used when a normally-open damper is required. The ZD is typically used with the TrueZONE and other electronic zoning systems.

ARD - ZONE DAMPERS FOR RIGID ROUND DUCTWORK

Honeywell Automatic Round Damper power-close, spring-open models ensure low leakage while controlling circulating air in heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
The last piece of the zoning puzzle is determining what bypass damper the furnace will need.

cprd - bYPASS DAMPERS

The TrueZONE® Bypass constant pressure regulating damper (CPRD) is a round static pressure relief damper. It is used in forced-air bypass applications to relieve excess static pressure when some of the zone dampers are closed.
WELL, THAT IS IT! NOW YOU HAVE ALL THE components YOU NEED TO assist YOUR CUSTOMER in their NEXT ZONING INSTALLATION

Things to watch out for

  1. If a customer is asking for a “wifi” set-up. Determine if they are actually asking for WIRELESS set-up because they can’t run t-stat wire to a zone or part of the house.
  2. Again, if you have even one wireless stat you will need a multi-zone HZ PANEL.
  3. If you have a wireless set-up and want internet access a gateway is required.
