Overcast Walkabout on Pass-A-Grille at Sunset PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBERT NEFF

Saturday, June 11, 2016. Dinner was at the Brass Monkey on Pass-A-Grille, which is the southern end of St. Pete Beach. The restaurant has the best crab cakes in Tampa Bay. The second floor outdoor dining area offers a great view of the setting sun and the Gulf. Afterwards, take a short walk along Historic 8th Avenue and explore the shops and real estate prices on the realtor's storefront window. This is America's shortest Main Street. On one end is Pass-A-Griller beach and the Gulf of Mexico. The other end is Merry Pier and the IntraCoastal Waterway.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Robert Neff’s contemporary art explores mixed media to build artwork that is dynamic and vibrant, and engages the senses. When Robert studies his photography, sometimes his vision triggers a desire to recreate the work in mixed media. Other times, he is drawn into a shape and extracts the DNA. Now, the work’s nature and life’s colors, tones, and shapes are used to develop the life form into a new work of art. These approaches provide the baseline to create design studies that explore geometrics, color, and patterns, and redefine boundaries.

With Robert’s mixed media, as your perspective changes, so does the design. From afar a captivating image blending patterns texture and color seem to move and transform as you approach the artwork. Up close you can see the detail in the design.

His style drew comparisons to Vasarely and the Op Art movement. One collector from Uruguay compared his style to "Constructivism" and the great Uruguay artist, Garcia. He challenged an architect to let him photograph his work and create mixed media artwork to fill the walls with his designs based upon the building and its perspectives. Instead of purchasing art that has little relevance to the building, Robert’s artwork inside is tied to the architect’s interior and exterior design.

Robert Neff mixed media artwork is based upon his travel and tourism, and wildlife photography. This adds further to the meaning of the artwork. Robert is an accomplished writer and award-winning photographer. His photography and storytelling are the inspiration and basis for his fine art. The three complement each other and stand on their own.
