Ascension School Parent Guide

Welcome to Ascension Catholic School and a community dedicated to the individual academic, emotional and spiritual growth of its children.
Principal, Mary Jo Burns

Ascension School was founded in 1912 by the Ursuline sisters with an initial enrollment of 240 students. Over a century later, Ascension has nearly doubled in size and serves children from Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Berwyn, Chicago and beyond!

Ascension School serves families from Oak Park and 14 surrounding communities.

Ascension School today is a modern, diverse institution that carries on the traditional values set in place by our founding sisters. We strive to create an environment that allows each child entrusted in our care to grow and reach their full potential. Our students graduate fully prepared to enter their next level of education with a strong foundation of faith-based academic excellence.

“We did not have to choose Ascension, we wanted to. We soon found out, through our children and new friends, that we were wanted too.”
Ascension Preschool offers classes as well as an all-day extended option for 3 and 4 year-olds

Education begins long before children enter school. At Ascension, we see our Preschool programs as an extension of the development that happens at home. Our nurturing, play-based classes for three and four year-olds focus on promoting the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual growth of our young children.

“Sending my daughter to Ascension means to me as a parent being at ease with sending her to school without worries, and knowing the staff will treat her like one of their own children.”
Our graduates go on to study at many Catholic high schools, including St. Ignatius, Fenwick and Trinity.

We provide our students with a challenging curriculum in an environment that fosters each child’s unique talents and gifts. With an average student to teacher ratio of 18 to 1, our faculty have the opportunity to work with our students individually to help them achieve their academic goals.

"A school that honors it's motto; Love, Kindness, Respect is comprised of teachers and staff who have made a conscientious decision to be part of the community."
The Catholic faith is infused in everything we do. Ascension is dedicated to teaching our children how to be true followers of Christ.

Everything that we do at Ascension School is centered by our belief in Roman Catholic education. We integrate our faith in the classroom through traditional religious education curriculum, but also through the celebration of our liturgical calendar, prayer and promoting Catholic values throughout our daily life.

"Ascension is not just a school. It's a faith-filled community. It's where my children will learn the power of prayer, the beauty of friendship, the importance of honesty and integrity, and ...the fun and value of education and learning."
From the Arts to Athletics, we believe that every student's interest can be nurtured and developed.

Here, education means more than just academics. We believe that children deserve a well-rounded curriculum to enrich their minds, bodies and souls. Ascension School provides outstanding programs for visual arts, music, Spanish language, physical education, and computer literacy so that every child has the opportunity to shine.

"The extra-curricular offerings at Ascension have helped my children develop a strong sense of teamwork and self-esteem. Everyone's unique talents are supported and celebrated at Ascension."
Our Extended Day program offers busy families the flexibility they need and a fun environment for their children to be with friends before and after school.

Our school is not just a place for your child to spend their days, it’s an extended family that encompasses more than just the school day. We are a community who cares for one another, and an institution that strives to meet the individual needs of each child.

“Without the Extended Day program, I would not be able to send my children to Ascension. The care they receive is outstanding, and it is something they look forward to every day.”

Ascension School is a parish ministry, committed to offering the best education possible, while managing costs through fiscal responsibility. Ascension Parish’s financial commitment to the school along with philanthropic support allow us to offer tuition much lower than the actual expenses of educating our children.
