Howard University 2021-2022 Federal Work-Study Program

The first day for eligible students to begin working in the Federal Work-Study program will be on August 23, 2021. Please note that all students are REQUIRED to attend a mandatory orientation prior to beginning their work assignment.

Federal Work-Study Student Orientation

All eligible students will have the opportunity to register for orientation via Zoom or 100% online!

Orientation is for students that have received a federal work study award and covers important resources, policies, and how-tos. The orientation is mandatory to begin the federal work study job placement process.

Option A: Zoom Orientation

Days & Times: Mondays & Wednesdays @12pm beginning July 26th

Attend orientation via a 1 hour Zoom session with our Federal Work-Study team on Mondays or Wednesdays at 12pm ET beginning July 26th! *45 minutes allotted for content and 15 minutes allotted for final Q & A

Option B: Self-Paced Orientation Course

Course opens on July 26th by 9am!

A self-paced course online course that will provide all the content of orientation on your own time! Students that complete the course will email their certificate of completion to FWS.jobs@howard.edu (please include name and Howard Student ID # in the email).

Job Placement Process for Students

  1. Accept FWS Award in Financial Package
  2. Attend Federal Work-Study Orientation (either via Zoom or via a self-paced course)
  3. Apply for openings in Handshake
  4. Interview and accept position
  5. Complete CCPS onboarding documents
  6. Complete HR Clearance
  7. Obtain Work Authorization Form from CCPS
  8. Begin working!

Finding a Federal Work-Study Job on Handshake

To find positions designated as on-campus jobs, click the On-Campus filter. This will give you all of the jobs that have been specified as on-campus positions.

Federal Work-Study Handbook for Supervisor and Student

The Federal Work-Study and Supervisor and Student Handbook explicitly outline rules and guidelines for supervisors and students participating in the Federal Work-Study Program.

These guidelines, policies, and procedures have been developed to meet student workers and their supervisors' needs. Students entering the work-study program must uphold all policies and procedures outlined in this manual. Any questions regarding this handbook should be addressed to the Center for Career and Professional Success.
