Erasure Poem

Dionne Brand wrote "Zong!" by erasing characters from legal documents of the court case for the Zong massacre, a horrifying mass murder of 133 African slaves. Brand uses these horrific documents to create a poem that gives a voice to the murdered people. I was inspired by her approach of overcoming the terrible situation and seeking comfort and justice from it. This poem was constructed from the speech delivered by Donald Trump about immigration. It is an attempt at changing the hate speech to one of love and diversity.
