Portrait Information Michael Orzell Photography

They say “life flashes by in the blink of an eye.” Oftentimes the photographs we feel most connected to freeze time and record the precious details that pass us by everyday. Looking back years later, these are the photographs that make us say “awww, remember when…” My focus is to capture family portraits that accurately portray this time in your life and preserve your memories for generations to come. I believe the best way to enjoy your photographs is to display them in your home to enjoy every day. Customers love their heirloom quality prints and products.

What To Expect

Custom photography is a great way to capture special moments and stages in your life with a level of customer service and attention to detail that is not available in a mass-market environment. My process is to color correct and retouch each photograph delivered to enhance the final product. This is the difference between a “shoot and burn it” photographer and my custom photography experience- I truly value the quality of the product delivered. Here is how my custom experience works:

I. Consultation – Contact me to discuss your photography needs. During this time we will get to know each other a little better and talk about what to expect during your session. There is no obligation to book during this free consultation. If you choose to reserve a date, payment of the session fee is required. The session fee covers time spent photographing and editing. Digital files are not included but are available for purchase upon request.

II. During the Session – Your session will take place in the comfort of your home or location of your choice. If you would like outdoor photographs ask about my favorite locations!

III. After the Session – two to three weeks after your session your final retouched images will be ready. At this time, we set up an ordering appointment and reveal your images for the first time- the best part! I ask that all decision makers be present for the reveal. I show you sample products to touch and feel. You choose your must-haves and I help you through the decision making and ordering process.

IV. Pickup / Delivery – Products are available for pickup or delivery three to four weeks after ordering (upon full payment).

Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your home. I focus on a natural, lifestyle approach and incorporate posed images upon request. Newborns are best photographed 3 - 14 days old, especially if you would like sleepy posed images.

Getting those sleepy, curled-up photographs takes time and patience. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy a cup of tea. There will be plenty of time for feedings and snuggle breaks as well. Siblings and parents are welcome to join in on the session.

Expecting parents are encouraged to contact me to book their session while still pregnant in order to secure availability around your due date.

High school graduation is a huge milestone. Senior pictures are a great time to express your child's unique personality, talents, and achievements. Seniors are encouraged to bring personal items that represent their hobbies/interests to incorporate into their session.

During your family portrait session children are encouraged to have fun! I focus on capturing connections, candid moments, and natural smiles. These are the moments you will want to look back on 10 years from now, not stiff poses and forced smiles.

Lifestyle portrait sessions involve a fun family activity and are mainly un-posed. Some activities include apple picking, arts and crafts, board games, baking, or anything your family enjoys doing together. This creates a natural environment that allows me to truly capture your family in its element.

Family portraits take place in your home or on-location within 30 miles of East Haddam, Connecticut.

Expecting a child is a very exciting time in your life. Capture the beauty of your pregnancy.

Maternity sessions are recommended to take place around 32 - 34 weeks.
