A Leader with a Purpose.
When his community of Lomas del Aguila was devastated by Hurricanes Eta and Iota last year, Dimas tirelessly coordinated efforts to rebuild. Through the end of 2020 and in the first months of 2021, he met with NGOs and government officials, supported by HTH, to relocate families, reopen roads, and establish a sense of basic food security.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, however, a community outbreak quickly found its way to Dimas. Within days, this strong leader was fighting for his life with the help of a ventilator.
While Dimas has no recollection of the weeks he spent in the ICU, he was later informed that of 13 patients, he was the only one of two who survived.
“It was hard. We don’t understand God’s purposes. Only by the grace of God and because of all of the prayers I was able to regain my consciousness."
"Last October, I began a relationship with Jesus. I know that had I died, my soul would have been saved. But God chose to restore my life because he has more work for me to do.”
Full recovery has been a long road for Dimas. Yet, he was filled with nothing but gratitude as he recently celebrated another birthday. Growing spiritually and full of vision for his community, his commitment to leading his family and Lomas del Aguila remains strong.
“Heart to Honduras was with me when I needed it most. They’ve been so special to me. I’m thankful to God and to every one of you. I will continue to help, to work, and to lead the projects to restore what was lost.”
