Federalism is is a system of government combining a federal government with a regional government. Federalism can help small states like Vermont because it let us make are own laws and have are own votes for the things we want.

Checks and balances is a system that allows each branch of government to alter or veto acts another branch has made. This was made to prevent any of the branches to have to much power. Some examples are that the Executive branch can veto bills that the legislative branch makes and nominate Supreme Court justices, the Legislative branch can impeach federal Justices and impeach the president, the judicial branch can reject laws and declare executive actions unconstitutional. This shows that all of the branches keep each other in tact.

The president is elected by the people of the United States. You have to be at leas 18 years old to vote. All of the states have there own number of electoral votes. For example if someone won in the state of Vermont they would get all of are electoral votes witch is three. After they figure out who won in all 50 states they tally up the electoral votes of each state and see who has the most votes.
