Openness

This image was inspired by the reading "Superman and Me." It shows both sides of a locked door. In this picture, Sherman Alexie has taken the form of Superman, and he wants to get in the door to reach the Native American boy who is "already defeated" and has given up on his education. Alexie wants the Native American children to be open to learning, and break free from the cycle of "fail[ing] in the non-Indian world." Alexie wants the children to consider new ideas, such as books and poetry, and think of the world as full of opportunities, rather than feel outcasted and oppressed. I drew this picture based off of other images I found on the internet.
