The Omaha hockey team dropped its final two games of the regular season to No. 1 Denver. The Pioneers won 4-2 and 3-0 to sweep the season series. The Mavericks earned the sixth seed in the NCHC Playoffs and will begin at Western Michigan on March 10. In Friday's game, Denver got two goals from Henrik Borgstrom in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and send the Pioneers to the 4-2 win. Mason Morelli and Austin Ortega each scored for the Mavericks, and Evan Weninger made 28 saves.

On Saturday, the Pioneers beat the Mavericks, 3-0, getting two more goals from Borgstrom in the process. Weninger made 24 saves. Prior to the game, the Mavericks honored seniors Ian Brady, Justin Parizek and Austin Ortega, and volunteer assistant coach Kirk Thompson, also a member of the class of 2017.


The Omaha men's basketball team rallied from an 11-point deficit Sunday, defeating Fort Wayne 84-80 in the Summit League Tournament Quarterfinals. Tre'Shawn Thurman tallied his team-leading eighth double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Tra-Deon Hollins also had a double-double on 13 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals.

The Mavericks advance to Monday's semifinals, facing IUPUI at 8:30pm in Sioux Falls, S.D.


The Omaha women's basketball team upended No. 4 seed South Dakota 64-58 Sunday afternoon in the Summit League Tournament Quarterfinals. Mikaela Shaw paced the Mavericks with a game-high 25 points, while Remy Davenport added 15 points. Mikaela Dapprich chipped in eight points and eight rebounds, and Abi Lujan had five points and eight boards.

The Mavericks advance to Monday's semifinals, facing Western Illinois at Noon in Sioux Falls, S.D.


The Omaha baseball team opened its week at Wichita State Wednesday, suffering an 8-0 three-hit shutout.

On Friday, the Mavericks saw their seven-run lead erased as Incarnate Word scored eight unanswered runs to take the series opener, 12-11. Adam Caniglia went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Parker Smejkal and Jack Kalina also drove in three runs apiece.

After Saturday's game was rained out, Omaha and Incarnate Word played a doubleheader on Sunday, with the Cardinals sweeping the contests, 3-0 in seven innings and 9-6. In game one, Ryan Cate finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

In game two, Omaha totaled 11 hits as a team, and Riley Herold led the charge with a 2-for-3 day with a triple, three runs scored and another driven in.


The Omaha softball team went 3-2 at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. The Mavericks opened tournament play with a 9-5 come from behind win over Montana. Nicole Warren went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Emma Dargy went 1-for-3 at the dish with three RBI and a run scored. Laura Roecker pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.

In Friday's second game, Omaha was limited to just three hits and dropped a 3-0 decision to Utah State. Dargy led the Mavericks at the plate once again getting a pair of base knocks, while Hailey Bartz finished with the other hit.

On Saturday, UNO opened with an 11-0 rout of Southern Utah. Lizzie Noble went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, while Lia Mancuso was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Kelly Pattison went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Vicky Kinney and Emma Dargy each had two RBI.

Omaha continued its offensive outburst in its second game of the day, defeating No. 16 Utah, 5-1. Noble once again led the Mavericks at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Kinney had a double and two RBI. Mancuso, Warren and Emily Klosterman each drove in a run for UNO. Roecker picked up her fifth win of the season with a complete game.

On Sunday, Omaha concluded its weekend with a 2-1 extra-inning loss to UC Santa Barbara. Bartz finished the day with a pair of hits and an RBI. Dargy and Mancuso each had a single and a stolen base.


The Omaha men's golf team took 13th at The Colin Montgomerie hosted by Houston Baptist last week. It was the Mavericks first tournament of the spring season. Kevin Gordon led the Mavericks in scoring with a total of 227 that put him in a tie for 48th. The Mavericks finished with a team score of 928.


The Omaha women's golf team finished 35th at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic, a 43-team tournament hosted by College of Charleston. Megan Vetrovsky led the Mavericks with a 54-hole total of 227 to finish in a tie for 60th. As a team, the Mavericks posted a score of 949.


The Omaha men's tennis team improved to 5-6 (0-0 Summit League) on the year with a 7-0 victory over Hastings last Friday. John Ellis won his match at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-1, while Matt Dunn earned a straight set win at No. 4 6-1, 6-3. Alex Woodward clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.


The Omaha women's tennis team split its weekend matches in Grand Forks, N.D., opening Saturday with a 5-2 triumph over Southern Utah. The Mavericks claimed the doubles point with wins from Rylee Tucker/Emily Behling at No. 2 (6-2) and Michelle Lo/Janelle Wilson at No. 1 (6-2). Omaha then won three singles matches to claim the win: Lo at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), Kenzie Hill at No. 6 (6-3, 6-1) and Kylie Boyer (7-6(2), 6-1 at No. 5.

On Sunday, Omaha fell 5-2 to North Dakota. Boyer/Hill tallied a doubles win at the No. 3 position, 6-2. In singles play, Tucker rallied to win at No. 5 (2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8)), and Hill picked up another victory at No. 6 (6-1, 1-6, 6-3).
