Harbour Pointe Middle School PARENT BULLETIN SEPTEMBER 6, 2019

OUR FIRST WEEK IS COMPLETE. WE DID IT.

Learning Improvement Time (LIT) starts today

Today is the first LIT, so remember school dismisses 75 minutes early. (That's 1:30PM for HPMS on Fridays). HP's early dismissal time can be found on the year-at-a-glance calendar (click on link below) or on the printed wall calendar that came home in your student's FIRST DAY packet.

STUDENT PLANNERS

Ask your student to see their "Student Planner." The first 20 pages is full of helpful information about life at HPMS. Please take some time to check it out with your student.

LOST & FOUND

In just three days we have collected a few water bottles, lunch boxes, and hoodies. If we find a name on an item, we will get the item back to the student. If there is no name, all lost and found items will be donated in December. Please help us by writing your student's name on their things. Thanks.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS - UPDATED!

All students are welcome to participate in ASB clubs and activities after school. There is NO sign-up necessary for the majority of our clubs. (The exceptions being STEM Club and Cooking Club.) As a reminder, students need to purchase an ASB membership ($15) to participate. For regular bus riders, activity buses will depart from the front entrance of HPMS, Monday through Friday at 4:00P. No activity buses on early dismissal days. A bus pass is required to ride the activity bus. Bus passes are available from teachers, coaches and staff. BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS

MORNING DROP-OFF HAS BEEN GREAT SO FAR!

Thank you parents for exceeding our morning drop-off expectations!

Just a couple of reminders -

  1. When in the "drop and go" line, please have your child/children exit on the passenger side of your vehicle.
  2. Be sure your student is ready to exit when you pull up to the front of the line. It's amazing how quickly we can get a back-up when the drop-off takes longer than "kiss and go".

Thank again for partnering with us to ensure the safety of our students.

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP EXPECTATIONS

If you are choosing to drop-off or pick-up your student from school, please follow the procedures that are listed below. These are meant to keep all of our students safe. We appreciate your partnership in maintaining a safe school environment.

  • Drop-off and pick-up occurs in the back lot. Front lot is closed - bus access only.
  • Expect a line - thank you for your patience!
  • When you enter the back lot, form a single line in the right lane.
  • Students shall enter/exit car at the front of the line closest to the building.
  • During the morning drop-off, this line must keep moving. Drop and go!
  • Remind your student the importance of exiting and entering your car promptly.
  • Be ready to pull your car ahead.
  • U-turns are not permitted.
  • Cars are not permitted to pass other vehicles while exiting or entering. The expectation is that you wait in line.
  • Upon exiting HP, right turn only onto HP Blvd. from 7:45-8:15 and 2:45-3:15.
  • Dropping students off on HP Blvd. is not permitted.

To avoid the lines, here are other alternate drop-off and pick-up spots you could consider:

  • 50th Avenue (across from the main entrance). Crossing guards stop traffic to allow students to safely cross the street.
  • Mukilteo Library - Near the library there a lighted city operated cross walk.
  • Kamiak High School north parking lot. The lot is near the gymnasium and portables. There is a bridge within a short walking distance that connects the two school.

To ensure all of our students remain in supervised locations before and after school, please read and discuss the following with your student.

  • BEFORE SCHOOL - Our school does not have adult supervision until 7:35AM, at that time our doors open and students may enter the building. As a result, students should not be dropped off before 7:35AM.
  • AFTER SCHOOL - At the conclusion of the school day it is expected that all students leave campus or are under the direct supervision of an adult in an organized school activity. It is not okay for students to "hang out" after school on campus. There is no supervision available after 2:45 unless it is an organized school activity. We appreciate your partnership to make sure your child is safe before and after school.

We appreciate your partnership in planning as a family so we can keep all of our students safe before and after school!
