Where did you sleep last night? By Nirvana

Nirvana is one of the few bands in rock history that has had an immediate impact on contemporary pop music. Nirvana flourished in the nineties. They had many troubles within their band, especially with the suicide of their leader, Kurt Cobain. He suffered from severe depression and addiction. There music has impacted many and many will cherish it forever.

The performances of this song has been described as haunting, incredible, and one of the best performances of all time. No one knows Kurt's exact interpretation of this song since it was a cover. But some believe that is was a stab at his love, Courtney. The song, originally written by Leadbelly, is about a guy singing about his girl cheating on him. Every word is sung with meaning and many describe it as a gut wrenching and emotional performance.

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me

Tell me where did you sleep last night

In the pines, in the pines

Where the sun don't ever shine

These stanzas are about his girl and he is asking his girl where she slept last night. He asks if she slept in the pines or where the sun don't shine.

I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, where will you go

I'm going where the cold wind blows

This stanza speaks about how he got no sleep because he was worrying about his girl. He explains how he shivers and wonders where she is.

In the pines, in the pines

Where the sun don't ever shine

I would shiver the whole night through

Same as above, it is a repeat.

Her husband, was a hard working man

Just about a mile from here

His head was found in a driving wheel

But his body never was found

Her husband was missing and never found, only his head was. I am assuming the singer is cheating.

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me

Tell me where did you sleep last night

In the pines, in the pines

Where the sun don't ever shine

I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, where will you go

I'm going where the cold wind blows

In the pines, in the pines

Where the sun don't ever shine

I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me

Tell me where did you sleep last night

In the pines, in the pines

Where the sun don't ever shine

I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, where will you go

I'm going where the cold wind blows

In the pines, in the pines

Where the sun don't ever shine

I would shiver the whole night through

The rest of the song is very repetitive and does not have much of a rhyme scheme, however, with each repeat, the song gets a deeper meaning.
