The Newcomer Youth Photo Project was created and designed to inspire youth to explore and connect with Canadian culture, language, the people of their community and the environment through photographic instruction, practice and critique, storytelling and map making, exhibit materials preparation, installation, and public presentation.
Each youth was loaned a DSLR camera and received in-depth photographic instruction through a series of workshops and exercises. The youth were tasked with recording their activities, friends and family, or any other subject they were interested in from September to December 2017. In January 2018, the youth began to learn about presenting a public exhibit.
The work of the youth photographers was featured during the ReFrame Film Festival 2018 and at the Publican House during the SPARK Photo Festival in 2018.
