Dear Reader,

Greyhound racing is not fair!

Commissioner Michael McHugh recommended Parliament consider whether the industry should be shut down.

“As a humane and responsible government, we are left with no acceptable course of action except to close this industry down,” Mr Mike Baird said.

Mr Baird said the Special Commissions of Inquiry’s report found that between 48,000 and 68,000 greyhounds bred to race were killed in the past 12 years because they were deemed “uncompetitive”.

This is unfair! Greyhound racing is very cruel and sadly it is happening all across the world. Why is the government letting this slip through their hands? Does the government just not care about our dogs? These poor and helpless so called pets or animals are getting chased by greyhounds to run quicker and win this pointless race! Terrified piglets, rabbits, native possums and kittens and are all victims of live baiting — tied to lures, flung around racetracks at shocking speeds and then practically beaten up until death.

All of those animals are chased by greyhounds around a track to make the greyhounds run. The greyhounds are not naturally vicious animals. They are bred in cages and trained to chase these animals so they can win the races. They are also kept in rows of small cages outside with only the ground and, if they’re lucky, some newspaper or rags to sleep on. If the greyhounds are injured, they are abandoned or put down and called practically useless. This is just not fair these poor animals are dying because of us! We need to stop this cruelty now!

Greyhound racing is an exciting sport to watch and bet on for a number of reasons including the fast pace of the unfair events, which often go for just 25 seconds, and the sheer volume of this unfair race are held each day, across Australia, New Zealand, America and various other nations around the world.

Generally, a greyhound's career will end between the ages of four and six – after the dog can no longer race, or even when it is no longer bothered to race. The best dogs are kept for breeding, and there are both industry-associated adoption groups and rescue groups that work to obtain retired racing greyhounds and place them as pets.

Some dogs if they are no longer able to race the dogs can be abandoned and one of my friends in America just rescued a greyhound that was lying on the side of the road a few years ago and the greyhounds name is Lillie and she won nine races when she was able to race.

Reflection:

What did you do well with this task?

What I think I did well with this topic of persuasion was thing link or the Adobe Spark page because I have worked on the adobe spark page thing quite a few times at my old school but I had never heard or seen of thing link before but I picked it up pretty quickly.

If you had to do the task again what would you change and why?

If I had to do the task again I would probably change my image because it was my first time using Photoshop and I think I could improve on cutting around my images and making it look more appealing to the viewers.

What did you need help with the most?

I think I needed most help on the Photoshop part because it was my first time ever using Photoshop before and it was quite complicated at the start but then after a lot of help I was cropping and cutting around images and changing the colour of the images and moving the images around our background image.

What did you learn about the art of persuasion?

I learnt that persuasion is a very strong language feature and that persuasion can be used in a whole bunch of different ways. E.G. You should driving to work and getting those cheap unhealthy plastic bags from the grocery bags and walk to work not drive and use reusable bags to help save our precious environment now!
