On Sunday, Oct. 6th Staples students attended the Save the Sound International Coastal Cleanup at the Levitt pavilion in order to help clean the environment and receive extra credit for their AP environmental science class.

Save the Sound is an organization that strives to keep Connecticut as clean as possible by hosting many cleanups in various different locations all throughout the state. Their main goal is to help keep Connecticut’s air healthy and water clean.

Nicole Jamieson '21 and Harley Bonn '21 using the provided trash clampers to pick up loose pieces of plastic which they found to be very helpful while picking up garbage.
Cleaning up around the pavilion was not a one man job. Students worked hand-in-hand in attempt to collect as much garbage as they possibly could throughout the hour and a half cleanup.
Jake Gersh '21 doing his part by picking up all the trash he can find. The students were surprised as to how much trash was just laying on the grass fields surrounding the pavilion.
Not only did Staples students attend this cleanup, but dogs did as well. This group of students searched for trash in hidden places as their dog helped them find garbage to fill their trash bag.
Sarah Mcgroarty '21 with her gloves on that allowed her to pick up the dirty pieces of trash hidden behind the Levitt.
Shira Parower '21 with her provided trash bag from the Save the Sound organization. The goal of the Cleanup was to have your garbage bag way the most.
The Levitt Pavilion was cluttered with waste which left a lot of work for the students.
Ella Moskowitz '21 found small pieces of paper, multiple plastic bags and bottles on the ground surrounding the stage.
Haydn Siroka '21 smiled throughout the whole cleanup as he had fun with his friends while helping the environment.
