Google is founded in 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Google's domain name is first registered in September of 1997 and first incorporated a year later in 1998.

Google moves its offices to Mountain View, CA, a city that borders Palo Alto and in which many Silicon Valley start-ups are located. Also, advertisements on Google begin selling, starting at 5 cents per click.

"Google" has become a part of every day language - both the Merriam Webster Dictionary and Oxford Dictionary add the verb "Google" to their content.

CNN reports that "more than a billion searches" are processed daily by Google.
5. shift into hardware
Google introduces the Google Glass, a machine worn like glasses that functions like a smartphone. Prototype production is ended in 2015 after great criticism on the issues of privacy and safety of the glasses, but Google's interest in hardware continues.
Products like Google Pixel (smartphone, 2016), virtual reality lenses (2014, $15.00), a self-driving car, and Google Home (2016, $129.99) are released or introduced. They feature a look into the future of Google, a successful search engine now expanding its product line.
