The Best of What Canada Has to Offer BY:Harshdeep Gill

Canada is a really Diverse and Multicultural country which has many great things to offer to its citizens, but the 3 things I found that makes Canada a Country different from all others is the Toronto Maple leafs, Tim Hortons and Free Healthcare.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are an Ice Hockey Team in National Hockey League, The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the Stanley cup 13 times, including 11 times as the maple leafs, once as the St. Patricks and once as the Arenas. The Maple Leafs are part of " The Original Six" NHL Teams which include the Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers and the Montreal Canadians. With their fans known as "Leafs Nation". The Toronto Maple Leafs had been founded in 1917 as the Toronto Arenas. After the team left the NHL, they came back in the 1919-20 season calling themselves the Toronto St. Patricks. In 1927 Conn Smythe bought out the St. Patricks and kept the team in Toronto changing the name to the Toronto Maple Leafs. (Williams)

Some of The Greatest Maple Leaf Players include Dave Keon, Charlie Conacher, Teeder Kennedy, Tim Horton, Darryl Sittler, Mats Sundin, Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark, and Curtis Joseph. The Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cups in the years 1918, 1922, 1932, 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1967. (Williams)

The Toronto Maple Leafs along with Toronto FC, the Marlies, The Raptors and the Air Canada Centre are owned by Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, out of which Rogers and BCE paid $1.3 Billion to buy a 75% stake in the company.(:Toronto maple leafs empire sold...")

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the great things that Canada has to offer, as it is Canada's most popular Ice Hockey Team making the most money out of any other NHL team. Toronto has one of the biggest Fanbases in the entire NHL called" Leafs Nation" and support the Toronto Maple Leafs tremendously, and why shouldn't they as Ice Hockey is Canada's National sport and Represents Canada. Also The Toronto Maple Leafs logo is a Maple leaf itself which is a leaf that Symbolises Canada, and the Toronto Maple Leafs show that by making it their Team Logo.

The Toronto Maple Leafs mean alot to me as I am a really big Hockey fan and have have been a proud supporter of the Maple Leafs since i was 8 also as The Leafs being our hometown Nhl Hockey team everyone should support them as fans through both the regular season and playoffs.

Tim Hortons All started in a small shop located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1964 and now nearly 53 years later there are over 4000 Tim Horton Locations across Canada, USA and a few other Countries. Tim Hortons Symbolises Canada as it is a Canadian brand and is the number 1 Coffee store In Canada even competing with Starbucks from the USA. Without Tim Hortons we wouldn't be able to grab a quick coffee on the go here in Canada. Tim Hortons is special to Canada as it was created and named after the Famous Toronto Maple Leaf player Tim Horton who was also Canadian. Also Tim Hortons is basically everywhere in Canada so it isn't hard to find a Tim Hortons store to grab a fresh and hot coffee once in a while.

I like to drink coffee once in a while and Tim Hortons makes it easy for everyone to grab a quick fresh coffee on the go instead of having to make it yourself which is why Tim Hortons is a big part of all coffee lovers life's and even people who like a good coffee to wake them up once in a while.

Medical Care is free in Canada, it covers basically everything other than glasses, prescription drugs, and dental care. (most people have that covered by insurance). Canada's Healthcare system is a group of socialized health insurance plans which provide coverage to all of Canada's Citizen's. This service is publicly funded with guidelines set by the federal Government. You do not pay for most of the health services as health care is paid for through taxes. You must show your health insurance card to the hospital when you use any public health services.(Khazan)

In 2014 around $141 billion of Canadian tax dollars had been spent on health care. Everyone is covered with free health care at birth. Health care coverage is available for your entire life. You can freely choose what doctors you go to and hospitals. The Health care system gets funded by sales, income and corporate taxes. Canada has 13 provincial and Territorial health care insurance plans. The Provincial Governments are responsible to provide health care services to their residents. All Provincial and Territorial plans must insure services provided by hospitals, physicians and dentists, when the service must be performed in a hospital. ("Healthcare in Canada")

Unlike Many Other Countries in the World including USA where you must pay for Medical care, here in Canada we have Free Healthcare so you don't have to pay any bills for a simple check up or diagnosis, However Healthcare here in Canada isn't technically free, as we have to pay taxes on almost everything which then go towards giving all kids free education and Healthcare for all of Canada's citizens. This Symbolises Canada as we are one of a few country's who use tax income towards the Healthcare system. This makes it easier for all Canadians as we basically don't have to pay any medical bills upfront, instead we pay them through taxes which makes life easier.

Free Healthcare means alot to us in my family as our family has many people with diabetes and high blood pressure and a check up once in a while is a good thing which we don't have to pay money for as we live in Canada.
