itravel One GIRL'S take on the world

5-30-16: The Canterbury Cathedral - Today was I arrived in England to see one of the most famous christian sites ever, the Canterbury Cathedral. Since this cathedral is also one of the oldest cathedrals remaining, it's architecture tends to be similar to Romanesque architecture, English Gothic architecture, and Gothic architecture and it was a majestic site. Canterbury Cathedral has played a central role as a spiritual leader in the church of England for many years. While visiting this magnificent site an Archbishop was murdered here in 1770 making this a place for pilgrimage for many christians. Tomorrow I leave again can't wait to see where my journey will take me.

6/2/16 Masjid Al-haram- I have been in Saudi Arabia for 2 days! The experience has been incredible. Did you know that mosques are normally structured around around a central courtyard? The architecture never ceases to amaze me! Today I visited the Masjid Al- haram aka the Great Mosque of Mecca, also called the Grand Mosque and it is over a thousand years old. This is the largest mosque in the world and it surround the Islamic religion's holiest sacred space called the Kaaba. I have loved to learn about the rich history and culture in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This place is so significant to Islam muslims turn towards the temple when doing their worship. Check out the photos below.

6/9/16 Haeinsa Temple - I love Korea. It is so beautiful here and the holy sites are amazing. I've learned a lot about Buddhism, I have learned that pagoda's are not necessarily places of worship most meditation takes place at home, monastery, or a temple like this one! Today I got to visit the Haenisa Temple it is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism located in the Gaya Mountains, in South Korea. This is a beautiful example of Buddhist architecture although it is not a pagoda.

6/11/16 Lumbini- Today I am in Nepal, thank God for airports, Lubini is a holy site for the Buddhist religions. This Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Nepal is the place were one of the key figures of the buddhist religion was born. Sorry I'm writing brief I have to go experience more culture so I can blog some more!!

6/13/16- Jagannath Temple Puri- I arrived in India only last night but this morning when I opened my eyes I was so amazed. I'm staying at a locals place located across from the Jagannath Temple Puri which is dedicated to Lord Jagannath and located on the eastern coast of India, at Puri in the state of Odisha. It is in the Oriya style of temple architecture used for the majority of Hindu temples. Tomorrow I am going to the Ganges River and I cannot wait to experience all the wonders this sacred site has to offer. The local host family has told me many incredible things about the Ganges River which is the holy river they worship as a Goddess. Check out my photos from these to sites.

6/17/16 Great Synagogue of Rome- As my trip is nearing an end, I made a stop to Rome and saw one of the most magnificent worship sites in the Jewish Religion. I visited and toured the Great Synagogue of Rome. This synagogue is one of the largest ones in the entire country of Italy. Did you know that the Jewish community of Rome dates back to 2nd Century B.C? That's Incredible!!! It is built in an eclectic style of architecture making it stand out from it's surroundings. I plan to fly to Jerusalem tomorrow to visit the Temple Mount in Jerusalem which is an essential holy site to both Islamic and Jewish Religions. Stay updated!!

6/19/16 Temple Mount- Today I visited a holy site that is crucial to both the Jewish and Islamic Religion. I learned that the Temple Mount is the holiest site in Judaism and the 3rd holiest site in Islam. In the Jewish religion. The Jews know it as Har HaMoriyah (“Mount Moriah”) and Har HaBayit (“Temple Mount”). To the Muslims it is known as Haram el Sharif (“the Sacred Noble Sanctuary”). For the Jews this has several different reasons for importance one of which is that this was the place God saved Abraham's son Isaac from sacrifice. Muslims believe Mohammed made a miraculous night journey from Mecca to Jerusalem according to the Koran and ascended to heaven. Wow. How amazing one spot can have so many religions connections. On a side note I also visited The River Jordan on my way to Jerusalem (Where the temple Mount is located. The River Jordan is a very sacred site for the Christian religion since that was the place where Jesus was baptised it is the site of Jesus' Baptism. Check out my photos below.
