La Amistad at peachtree march 9, 2017

Dear Friends,

It has been a very short week after having many of our students out for mid-winter break.

However the weather man is calling for a chance of snow this weekend. REALLY?? How crazy is this?

All I can say is that if you don't like the weather in Atlanta... just stay a while it is guaranteed to change.

We do hope that you enjoyed the time off and are ready to jump back into the saddle next week.

Time to Spring Ahead

Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday before going to bed. This is also a good time to remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors too.

Sending Love and Well Wishes...

We just found out that our own Mr. Michael Moore will be out for the next couple of weeks because of a broken shoulder.

Please keep him in your prayers as he recovers and is on the mend.

Let's Stay Healthy
Hand washing
Wash, Wash Your Hands

We have had a ton of illness lately. We can't stress enough that students need to wash their hands so that everyone will stay happy and healthy.

Update on Bicycle Give Away
Practice those math flash cards

The bicycles will be given to the students who have demonstrated the biggest improvement on the math assessments throughout the course of the entire school year.

Therefore we will wait until the final math assessment is completed at the end of April before making this determination.

Looking Ahead...

Volunteer Log In Hours Needed

If you volunteer with the first grade class on Tuesday we need you to sign the volunteer log located in the student emergency book bag each week.

This week Mr. Desmond Cullins will be accompanying the students to Blue Heron.

Thank you for helping us to keep track of your volunteer hours.

Onsite Program Evaluation

Our after-school program will be evaluated within the next couple of weeks. Our associate director Kevin Amaya and our Program Replication Director Michelle Ocampo will be stopping into your classes to make sure we are in accordance with the mission of LaAmistad.

"Preparing our students and families for success through academic and life enrichment programs."

They will be looking to make sure we are in compliance in the following areas:

  • Classroom rules are posted
  • Virtues and word of week discussed
  • Student ambassadors greet visitors upon arrival
  • Traffic light and clips are visable and present
  • Students are on task
  • Notebooks are signed off of daily
  • Educational games/ activities are present

You are doing an amazing job and I'm confident we will pass with flying colors.

Learning Resources
Word of the week

Meaning: to find the facts about something in order to learn how it happened.

Can be instead of: look into, research, ask around, dig up

Study Skill

Proofread Your Writing Aloud

How to incorporate the study skill: Proofread your writing aloud by reading to yourself or a friend and making corrections with a colored pen.

It can help you catch things that you have written that don't sound aloud. Check spelling in the dictionary. Have someone check your writing for errors.

Virtue of the Week

Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy.

"I am respectful. I treat others and myself as we deserve to be treated. I show courtesy to everyone. I learn from the wisdom of others"
