Marie Laveau Maria Espino & Paige Humble

This fame-plagued voodoo queen is known for many things. Her being one of the most powerful voodoo practitioner is something for example. The beautiful Laveau has much to her other than her world-famous title. She was born onto this world on September, 10, 1801. It is believed that her mother and grandmother practiced the art of voodoo. Nonetheless, not much is known about her youth.

Facts

Her grandmother Catherine was taken from Africa taken from Africa at the very young age of seven years old. She earned freedom for herself and Marie by buying herself out of slavery. She is known to be beautiful with her "carmel-like" skin. Marie Laveau would like to nurse the sick, especially those who were affected by the yellow fever.

As Marie Laveau grew up, she married Jacques Paris at the young age of 18. Two children were brought from this marriage, but they are believed to have passed away. Paris seemed to have passed away as well, but how? Well that is still a mystery. She continued on as a hairdresser when her husband passed. Since her clients were mostly wealthy white socialites, Laveau knew all the gossip and private information.

In less than a year, her first husband-Jacques Paris- disappeared mysteriously. This is the point in which she started calling the "widow Paris". She was perceived as a very powerful human being. She is said to be able to keep anybody from hurting you or do whatever you wanted done to someone else.

Soon enough, she entered a common law marriage with Louis Christophe Dominick Duminy de Glapion. Seven children came from this marriage, but she is said to have had 15 children. Sadly, only two children lived past childhood, but only one survived into adulthood. The one that did survive ended up drown during a "wild ritual" in Lake Pongchartrain.

Marie Laveau ll, Maria Laveau's daughter, was known for her wild rituals in swamps around New Orleans and was said to have drowned in 1897 while crossing the flooded Lake Pontchartrain. The voodoo queen of New Orleans Was known to be knowledgeable and wise. She was the first commercial voodoo queen and she specialized in romance and finance. She was thought to be all-knowing and all-powerful.

She then continued her career as a hairdresser. This way, Marie made many connections as well as gaining access to private information. Reason being, she mostly catered to wealthy socialites. Laveau convinced others that she had magical powers by providing private information that no one else knew. She grew in power and named herself "Voodoo Queen". The people of New Orleans did not object though. They respected her and thought of her as all powerful.

Rosalie, another creole woman, attempted to take Marie's position as the Queen of Voodoo, but was unsuccessful. Laveau was respected and Manipulative- in a good way- she would manipulate the truth. She worked with condemned prisoners to try to convince them to repent before the get their penalty.

Marie Laveau lived to the ripe age of 79. It is said that she had a grand funeral. Her tomb is adorned with x's because for every wish granted there are three x's. Many believe she works her magic beyond the grave. To this day, she is still the most respected women in New Orleans. They call her... The Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.

In 1821, Marie Laveau wanted to merry her second husband, Captain Christophe Glapion. But since interracial marriages were officially banned in Louisiana, they could not marry. Marie Laveau was considered very skillful in her practice of voodoo. She was skilled in the practice of medicine and knew the healing qualities of indigenous herbs.
