Theodore Roosevelt During theodore roosevelt's presidency, to what extent did latin american's relationship with america improve?

The Panama Canal

The canal went form the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. One of Roosevelt's first goals was to get congress to approve the building of a canal. The French company promptly offered to sell its Panamanian rights to congress for $100 million. In the end, congress did vote to build a canal in Panama, and the French company accepted its offer of $40 million. The canal now belonged to the U.S. At this point, the U.S. was no favorite with Columbia or other Latin American countries, but their relationship improves.

The Big Stick Diplomacy

This diplomacy was Roosevelt's foreign policy. This promoted economic interests through Cuba's sugar production, which therefore improves their relationship with America. Venezuela and Santo Domingo are in debt and cannot pay back. The U.S. giving economic help really improved America's relationship with Latin America. During this time, the Philippine - American war was taking place.

The Roosevelt Corollary

The Roosevelt Corollary, a corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, asserting that the U.S. might intervene in the affairs of an American republic threatened with seizure or intervention by a European country, did not want the French. Convinced that all of Latin America was vulnerable to European attack. This was also based off the idea that the U.S. needed to protect influence in western Hampshire, promote itself rule for the people. This improved Latin American relationships with the U.S. because the U.S. needed to protect Latin America.

OVERALL: During Theodore Roosevelt's presidency, Latin America's relationship with America improved by America helping Latin America economically, which helped Latin America's overall well being.
