Managing in the Health and Fitness Industry Seminar Two

In lecture two we discussed the range of providers in the health and fitness industry including the public, private and voluntary sectors. Key features of each of these sectors were highlighted including how each are funded to enable growth and development in the industry.

The involvement of the National Lottery has had a massive impact on the growth of sport and physical activity in the UK and many facilities have benefited from lottery funding to help develop and improve their sport.

There are a wide variety of employment roles in the industry which can be part time, full time, voluntary and on a self employed bases.

In this seminar you are to research three different health clubs from the commercial, public and voluntary sector. For example Virgin Active in the commercial sector, a local leisure centre for the public sector and a voluntary sports club. When completing your research you need to answer the following questions:

  1. Who are they?
  2. How long have they been established
  3. What do they offer?
  4. Who are their target audience?
  5. Where are their clubs?
  6. How is the facility funded?
  7. What type of employment opportunities does the facility have?

Please submit your work through the turnitin link in the week two section of the module.
