Media and Communication Major / Political Science Minor

Thomas Keaton Bowman is from Rockwood, Tennessee. Currently a senior at East Tennessee State University. Aside from going to school full time he also runs a bail bond company back home in Roane County, Tennessee. Once upon graduating from college he plans on moving to Nashville to pursue a political career.

Media and Communication Major / Women’s Studies Minor

Abbie King is from Cookeville, Tennessee, but she currently attends East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. She is torn between either continuing into a graduate program or moving to a large city to pursue an early career in public relations and advertising. Abbie most recently had a marketing internship with the Birthplace of Country Music this summer. She is excited to see where life takes her after she graduates in May.

Brittany Terry is from Rockwood,TN. She is currently a Senior at East Tennessee State University majoring in Media & Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations/Advertising. She is graduating in December of 2016 and will be making a move to Las Vegas shortly after. There she hopes to work in advertising for one of the major hotel chains.

Joel Eaton is from Knoxville, TN and is currently a junior at ETSU pursuing a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations. He enjoys recording, mixing, mastering, and songwriting and is a member of an alternative rock band called Stationflyby. Joel loves concept development, team strategy, and creative writing.

Kendell Asberry is from Chattanooga,TN. She is currently a Senior at ETSU majoring in Media and Communication with a minor in Entrepreneurship. She will be graduating in May of 2017 and from there she plans on moving back home to Chattanooga and becoming a PR Specialist for a Non-Profit Organization.

  • Bucky's is an on-campus nonprofit available to East Tennessee State University students and faculty members in need of food/personal hygiene resources
  • Designed to aid those in need of food resources
  • Raise awareness of food insecurity and hunger on ETSU campus
  • Provide person hygiene products as well as clothing to those who need it, based on donation

To diminish or end food insecurity for the ETSU community in the most convenient, discreet and easily accessible means possible.

Hunger Statistics

  • Median household income in Johnson City (in 2014 dollars), 2010-2014: $39,121
  • Persons in poverty in Johnson City, percent: 23.6%
  • According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap 2013: Food Insecurity report, 14.4% of Northeast Tennesseans (72,580 individuals) are considered food insecure; 1 in 4 children (26,830 under age 18) are considered food insecure.


As with any project, there were limitations in the execution of the revamping of bucky's

  • Lack of access to Facebook page
  • Scheduling conflicts
  • Extremely difficult bringing our website design visions to life using the OUCampus platform

  • Target audience is Generation Y, and that generation of people spend a good portion of their time on social media
  • Instagram now has 400 million active users
  • Over 60 percent of users log in daily, making it the second most engaged network after Facebook
  • 30 percent of internet users are now on Instagram
  • 90 percent of Instagram users are younger than 35
  • On an average day, 80 million photos are shared
  • Instagram usage has doubled in the last two years
  • 48.8 percent of brands are on Instagram. By 2017, this is predicted to rise to 70.7 percent
  • If we only look at the top 100 brands in the world, 90 percent have an Instagram account
