Wassily's Painting

Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian artist born in Moscow on Dec. 16, 1866. His parents were Linda Ticheeva and Vasily Silvestrovich Kandinsky. His mom was a musician while his dad was a tea merchant. Unfortunately, when he was 5, his parents divorced and he moved to Odessa to live with his aunt. While he was there, he learned to play the piano and cello in grammar school and studied drawing with a coach. Even as a boy he had a very intimate experience with art. He said his art lifts him out of reality. When he grew up, he followed his parents wishes and went off to study law. He entered the University of Moscow in 1886. He ended up graduating with honors. He later got a scholarship that entailed a visit to the Vologda province to study their traditional criminal jurisprudence and religion. The folk art and spiritual study stirred latent longing for him. He later married his cousin, Anne Chimyakina, in 1892 and took up the Moscow faculty of law, while doing art on the side. In 1896, his abrupt change in career was impacted by two things, Claude Monet's Haystacks at Giverny, which was his first experience of nonrepresentational art, and hearing Wagner's Lohengrin at the Bolshoi Theatre. He chose to abandon law and focus fully on art.

A Tree

My artwork looks like a tree with very creative leaves. The subject matter of my work is nature. The title of my art is "A Tree". One element that shows up a lot in my work is Value. The materials I used where water color paints. My process was use different colors in a circular motion. The artist Wassily Kandinsky inspired my artwork. My artwork does not address a personal or social issue. I wanted to express a childlike feeling because that is the vibe I get from Wassily's work. My goal as an artist is to make people feel something. This project didn't really help me reach my goal because I don't really have any experience as an artist yet. I didn't learn anything from my art. My final piece is exactly what I thought it would be because it shows a childish side of art. This project will help me with future projects because I will be sure to show more detail.
