A Note from the Principal

The 2018-2019 school year is off to a great start! I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer. We have many exciting things happening this school year. It is a great time to be a Loogootee Lion!

Important Information

Car Riders - Arrival/Dismissal

The car rider arrival and dismissal line is beginning to get better, however, there are some things that can be done to help make it safer for our students and the flow of traffic.

  1. Please remain in line and do not cut in front of other cars.
  2. If you are walking your child to the school, please park past the safety poles.
  3. Only allow your child out of the vehicle if you are parked within the safety poles.
  4. Please have your child get out on the right side of the vehicle so they can immediately walk onto the sidewalk.
  5. Please have your child ready to get out as soon as the vehicle approaches the safety poles.
  6. Please watch for and follow the direction of the person on duty.

During dismissal, we load cars from two different doors, the main entrance and the side entrance (east side) of the school. If you pick up on the side entrance of the school, please do not begin parking on the road until after 2:30 PM. The Special Ed Cooperative bus loads from the side entrance at 2:30 PM and is having a hard time pulling in due to cars blocking the entrance. Also, if you are picking up in the front of the building, please do not block the reserved and visitor parking spots before dismissal. There are times that students sign out briefly before dismissal and these cars need spots to park.

Thank you for your help with this!

Trash Bag Fundraiser

The LES trash bag fundraiser ends Monday, August 27th. If you are participating, please have order forms turned in on Monday so that we can process the order. Also, thank you for your support. The money we raise helps to provide rewards and other fun activities we do for the kids!

School Pictures

Picture Day is quickly approaching! We are scheduled for pictures on Monday, September 10th. We are going through a different company this year called, Inter-State Studio. You can sign-up through the link below to get picture updates, tips on what to wear, and links to order online.

LES Spotlight

Attendance Incentives

The attendance policy at Loogootee Elementary is based on the premise that something important happens each day in each class. We understand that some absences are unavoidable. However, good attendance is key to student success. We have put incentives in place to promote the importance of attendance at school. Each week, the class with the best attendance percent gets to place the "Attendance Key" outside their door for the following week. Also, the grade level with the best attendance gets to pass around the candy basket throughout the entire grade.

Accelerated Reader Program

Practice makes perfect! One of the best predictors of academic success is the amount of time a child spends reading. In order to improve reading skills, students need to practice their reading at least 15 minutes each day. To encourage our students to read, we have an Accelerated Reading (AR) Challenge. Books that students check out from the public library, read at school, or have at home are likely to have an AR test your child can take at school. Students can earn rewards for reaching different point levels.

  • 10 Points - “Book Worm”
  • 20 Points - Homework Pass
  • 30 Points - Extra Recess
  • 40 Points - Frozen Treat
  • 50 Points - "Paws"itively Awesome Reader Wristband
  • 65 Points - Book
  • 80 Points - Pizza Party
  • 100 Points - Pie in the Principal’s Face
  • 125 Points - Dairy Master Lunch
  • 150 Points - Amazing Reader T-Shirt
  • 175 Points - 1 Day Pool Pass
  • 200 Points - Lunch at Lake View

We also have a schoolwide goal. If our students combine for 9,000 points, we will have a "Kids Rule the School" day. This will be a day where students will get to choose the activities they do in class for the entire day!
