Treasures in the Gap Where red dirt and fine wine pair perfectly

I was delighted to be invited back for the 13th Annual Buffalo Gap Wine & Food Summit this year. Every year in April, Perini Ranch hosts award-winning chefs and winemakers in this tiny Texas town on the outskirts of Abilene. I happen to be from this area of Texas, so I'm especially fond of the red dirt and southern hospitality in the Gap. This year, I picked up some goodies at Perini's Country Market, explored their new Supper Club and took a peek at their Guest Houses before the wine was uncorked. If your weekend takes you to the Gap, don't leave the Country Market without Tom's Steak Rub (best Bloody Mary rim ever), Moose on the Loose Salsa (seriously, I brought 5 jars home last week and my husband can't stop talking about how insanely delicious it is), and a "Where the Hell is Buffalo Gap, TX?" Tee (because they're too cool not to).

You can't roam the Gap without at least 2 meals at the Steakhouse Tom affectionately calls 'The Joint'. Why? Because the Rib-Eye and the Catfish are legendary and you won't be able to pass up the Poblano Mac & Cheese, Jalapeno Cheesecake, Bread Pudding, or Green Chile Hominy. Oh yes... and the award-winning Burger! Better make that 3 meals!Thank goodness there's a Guest House. Make a reservation and spend a weekend under the oaks enjoying Tom's incredible recipes paired perfectly with wines from Lisa's List.
