The Journey - Journalism Bootcamp Prague 2015

An unforgettable experience that has happened to me this summer is The Journey: journalism boot camp. It is an annually organized intensive summer course, which offers participants unique experience through interactive seminars conducted by professional journalists, editors and media personalities from world’s most renowned news outlets and agencies. Organized by The Bakala Foundation, The Journey aims to bring together promising students of journalism and media from around the world and give them the opportunity to learn from top professionals from the field and to create a unique, inspiring experience.

Villa Grebovka is the amazing historical place that we have stayed in. It is situated in the middle of Havlickovy sady - a beautiful public park. The villa is a national historic building that dates back to 1871 and was initially built as a summer residence of a Czech industrialist.

We, as participants, underwent series of workshops on current trends and tools used in reporting, data collection and analysis, investigative journalism and many more aspects of modern media work as well as a number of exercises, in real newsroom conditions.

We had the chance to visit the famous Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. We have met with international journalists there and attended a talk with one of their most prominent professionals.

We also attended the Prague Pride 2015 as part of our task. We were supposed to take and shoot interviews during the whole day. This resulted in the production of reportages of each team, useful hands on experience and lots of fun!

Many were the workshops and classes that we have attended. But one of the most useful and pleasant things during the whole programme was the fact that we had time off to spend with our mentors. They prooved to be very down to earth, helpful and communicative outside of the classroom as well. Here is the proof:

We had the chance to work and learn from professional journalists from Reuters, ProPublica, Mashable and many others.

I would not hide that the fact The Journey was in the heart of Prague made this experience unforgettable.

After the end of classes, each day we were out there exploring the city, its history, its present and...

The end of an amazing Journey!
