Newsletter 11th September 2020

Headteacher Comment

We continue to work hard to help everyone follow the new routines to ensure we are a safe as we can possibly be. Thank you for helping by continuing to socially distance and follow the one-way system around the school site. These things are easily forgotten when trying to simultaneously look after children and toddlers, but do please keep trying your best. Thank you.

Learning is well and truly back to normal in class (when we are not washing our hands) and you can see in the newsletter below some of what has been going on across the school below.

Also in this week’s newsletter, you will see a notice about PE Kits. Please ensure you read it carefully and ensure your child brings their PE to school on Monday.

With staggered starts and finished to the school day we are experiencing fewer parking issues outside of the school. However, I do want to remind you that parking on the road approaching the school and on Highfield Road opposite the school road is restricted parking and you could find you are issued a ticket from Kettering Borough Council. They now use cameras to identify illegal parking and issue tickets through the post. For further information:https://www.kettering.gov.uk/info/20011/parking

Finally, I'd like to take this opportunity to offer thanks from me and the whole school community to Ryan Critchley, who has been diligently serving as a Parent Governor for the past few years. Ryan has given his own time to serve this community and has made a significant contribution, first to the development of the Governing Body, and as it transitioned into being the Academy Scrutiny Committee of a newly graded Outstanding School. Thank you for your service to Greenfields, Ryan.

Have a lovely weekend.

Very Busy Bees

Busy Bees have had a lovely start in Reception. This week they have enjoyed using hula hoops, footballs, balance beams and, a favourite for most of the children, the walking cups. The walking cups shows them having to persevere and gain confidence to balance and walk at the same time. Well done Busy Bees 🐝

Everyone loves reading at Greenfields!

We are excited to inform you that Greenfields Primary School has launched a new way of recording every child’s reading when they read at home. Instead of the usual paper diary, you can now log your child’s home reading using this link.

Your child will bring a reading book home every Monday. Please return it every Friday. As well as the school reading book, teachers would also love to hear about other books your child reads at home so please feel free to share these on the record as well.

Every child at Greenfields Primary School and Nursery is expected to read at home at least three times per week. This helps improve their reading fluency and knowledge of vocabulary, as well as helping them develop a lifelong love of reading.

Please ask your child's teacher for more information.

Google Classroom

We loved using Google Classroom to keep our learning going during lockdown and we were delighted that 99% of children at Greenfields accessed it to keep in touch with their teachers, to keep up with friends and complete their learning.

To keep Google Classroom going successfully this year, we have tried to make access simpler, by renaming your child’s Google Classroom from last year with this year’s class name. So, for example, if you child was in Smart Snakes (Year 2) and has moved to Marvellous Meerkats (Year 3), their Google Classroom code will not have changed, and they should log in as before. Classes where last year’s Google Classrooms are being continued into the new year are highlighted in yellow.

Year 4/5 classes may need to use a new access code and follow the link below. Similarly, Year 1 Google Classrooms are completely new, as parents used Tapestry last year.

Teachers are looking forward to posting their first ‘Flipping Greenfields’ video of the term in time for the weekend. It will be all about next week’s learning, so will get your child off to a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.

If you have not used Google Classroom before, or you are new to Greenfields, please follow this link that explains how to log on to a PC, Android or Apple device. You will need your child’s email address and password, and the class codes below:

Class Code and Google Link

to access Google Classroom please click on the class name your child is in. The class code is next to the class name.
