Headteacher Comment

An amazing way to end the week: Celebration Assembly! For those of you who were able to join us with your children at our LIVE MS Teams Event, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. A big "well done" to those of you who were announced as Star Pupil for this week. We got to hear about some of the incredible things you are all getting up to with your remote learning and we will be sharing our LIVE celebration assembly every week on Friday at 2pm. Join us if you can.

On your behalf, I'm sure, I wanted to take this opportunity say "thank you" to your child's class teachers. They have done a remarkable thing to completely change the way that they do their job. We are now working hard to use MS Teams even more effectively and efficiently to ensure your child is getting to experience real-time live lessons with their teachers, where appropriate. Fortunately, as a school who likes to stay abreast of technological developments in education, this has been quite a natural progression for us. We'd just like to encourage you to do what you can to support your child with their remote learning. It should not be stressful for either you or your child. As during Lockdown 1.0, teachers and support staff are now making weekly phone calls to speak to your child. Please do take the opportunity to ask for their help and advice with any aspect of our online education offer.

Also, thank you so much for your patience when we have been faced with technical difficulties. Do hang on in their and we will do all that we can to resolve any ongoing challenges. You can also request support at any time using admin@greenfields-pri.co.uk

We have received so many messages of support and encouragement from you - these do get through to staff - THANK YOU. However, should you have any concerns or questions about your child's remote education, please contact the school office and they will contact your child's class teacher.

Enjoy the weekend.

WoW! Year 2

Year 2 have been learning about the Stone Age this term. As part of WOW Day they used natural materials to make their own coloured paints. They then used their new paints to create pictures showing what they did over the holidays. Can you guess what Year 2 did over the holidays?

Year 4 and 5 are Fair traders

Year 4/5 have started a new Geography topic on Fairtrade. The children in school have been busy looking at different Fairtrade produce from bananas to chocolate. The children used Fairtrade sugar and lemons to make lemonade. It looked very refreshing indeed.

Keep an eye out for the Fairtrade symbol when doing your shopping.

Year 3 understand healthy eating

This week in science, Year 3 have been learning about how to maintain a balanced diet. To show off their amazing knowledge from this week’s lesson, Marvellous Meerkats created their own food pyramid, to remind themselves of the quantity of each different food group that they should typically eat in their diet. Please take a look at some of the incredible examples that children have submitted to Google Classroom.

Reception collaborate in school and at home

The children in Reception and at home have enjoyed using their maths in creating some yummy cookies. The teachers are sure they will not be around for long. After listening to the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', they made some slime! Both in class and at home the children have been practising their number formation, ordering numbers 1-10 and even challenging themselves to 20.

Switch it!

This week Year 4/5 had a go at singing song called ‘Switch It’, so many children got involved and some even got their families on board too.

Thank you to everyone who sent Miss Kenny their videos, she absolutely loved each and every one of them.

We all look forward to hearing next week’s song. Keep singing J

Year 4/5

Year 3 meet the Author

Year 3 were thrilled to meet author Kate Claxton this week in our online lessons. We had the opportunity to hear Kate read her first published book "My Mum’s a Tiger" and ask her questions about her job as an author. We got three top tips to becoming a great author and they were: to practise your spelling as much as possible, to start your stories at whichever part of it you are most excited about and build your story from there and to share your work with as many people as you can. We were all very excited to see that we do most of these already in our lessons.

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
