OPEN YOUR EYES

Open Your Eyes
  • Open eye image and copy background layer.
  • Use Lasso tool to make a selection around the eye and the free transform tool to enlarge the eye. Add layer mask and blend to face using a soft brush.
  • Merge eye enlargement to background.
  • Add high pass layer and change blend mode to overlay to sharpen image.
  • Adjust contrast and brightness within high pass layer to add further sharpening.
  • Use quick selection tool to cut out hand and copy into image. Use layer mask and brush tool to blend to fit eyelid.
  • Copy and paste tormented person image into the document and use the free transform tool to fit into the eye. Change blend mode to lighten, reduce opacity, add layer mask and use a soft brush to blend into pupil.
  • Add the rain texture, change blend mode to overlay and reduce the opacity. Add layer mask and use soft brush tool to remove texture over the eye to keep sharpness and draw focus.
  • Add 50% grey layer with overlay blend mode and use brush tool to add shadow to hand.
  • Compress all layers and add a colour lookup adjustment and select bleach bypass to finalise image.

  • Open grey image for background.
  • Add paper image into new layer. Add layer mask and use brush tool at low opacity to blend to add texture.
  • Copy autumn scene into new layer. Use quick selection tool to cut out man and paste into image. Use free transform tool on man to scale down and place in autumn scene.
  • Use quick selection tool to cut out hand and paste into new layer. Reduce opacity and add layer mask. Paint with black brush at low opacity to reveal scene below but keep detail of the hand.
  • Add a layer mask to autumn scene layer and paint with a black brush to fit into the hand.
  • Go back to paper texture mask and paint with high opacity brush to remove from inside the hand.
  • Convert to black and white.
  • Add a colour adjustment and select bleach bypass to complete the image.
  • Extend canvas size by 4 inches and fill with white to create border.

Rear View Mirror

  • Select car mirror image and open in Photoshop.
  • Use lasso tool to cut out mirror and copy into new layer. Use free transform tool to enlarge.
  • Add tree scene into image and add a solarising filter. Add a layer mask and paint with a black brush to fit scene in windscreen.
  • Copy border of windshield from image and paste into right hand side of the image to create windshield border.
  • Use quick selection tool to copy reaching arm, paste into image and use free transform tool to fit in mirror. Add a layer mask and paint in black to tidy up the edges. Repeat process for left hand.
  • Copy and paste crack image and use free transform tool to fit into mirror. Copy x3 and place around hands. Use layer masks on each crack and brush in black to fit around arm and hand.
  • Add a black and white conversion.
  • Compress all layers. Copy final image into new document and use transform tool to rotate slightly on its side to complete the image.

All the small things

  • Open tree scene into Photoshop
  • Open new tree image and use quick selection tool to copy and paste new tree into the scene. Use free transform tool to make the tree wider. Merge new tree to the background.
  • Add a colour lookup layer and select night from day. Add a black to transparent gradient to keep the foreground lighter. Use a clipping mask and adjust the brightness of the colour lookup. Add a black and white adjustment layer and reduce the opacity to darken the entire scene.
  • Use polygonal lasso tool to cut out stairs and copy into scene. Use free transform tool to stretch stairs to fit into tree. Add layer mask and blend using a soft brush.
  • Use polygonal lasso tool to create a selection slightly wider than the stairs and fill with black, reduce opacity and add layer mask. Paint with black brush at various opacities to create shadow on the stairs.
  • Use quick selection tool on door image to cut out door and copy and paste into scene. Use transform tool to place above the stairs. Add layer mask and clean up edges using a hard brush. Repeat process for sign above door.
  • Use quick selection tool on lamp image and copy and paste into scene above the door. Create a new layer and use a large white, soft brush to create a circle of light. Add layer mask to mask out light above the lamp.
  • Create a new layer and use polygonal lasso tool to create a triangular selection. Fill selection with white and reduce opacity to 25%. Add gaussian blur to this to soften the edges to create light radiating from lamp.
  • Use quick selection tool to copy and paste man in various positions x 4 into the scene. Mask each of them and blend using brush tool to fit the scene.
  • To create light cast on 3 men on the stairs, apply layer mask to each and apply an inner glow effect. Add a hide all mask and paint in white with a soft brush around the edges where light would cast. Reduce opacity of each.

Take back the City

Take back the City

  • Open city image in Photoshop.
  • Use selection tool to copy and paste various buildings x4. Use free transform tool to position throughout image to create a varied skyline. Compress all building layers and turn exposure right down to create silhouetted skyline. Make a selection around the new skyline using the quick selection tool and copy into new layer.
  • Copy sky image into the scene and place in layer below skyline.
  • Use quick selection tool to cut out and paste man into image and use free transform tool to place on top of building. Turn exposure right down to make silhouette. Repeat process for his arm and cape.
  • Add an inner glow effect to man and his arm, add a hide all mask and use a soft brush to paint in white and create light cast.
  • Add a colour lookup adjustment and select late sunset and reduce fill percentage to complete image.
