Kerry Evans spoke with our Accountant to get a glimpse into how Evolve's culture works for those on the business support side of the business.

How long have you worked for Evolve and why did you decide to join?

I joined Evolve a little over 8 years ago. I had a phone interview with the CFO at the time and was intrigued, as I felt it would be a great opportunity to expand on my accounting experience. Within the week, I was offered the job and then whisked off to the UK for training!

What is the best part of your job? Can you give an example of something you implemented that brought a new level of efficiency to your job?

I love working with numbers and the challenges that accompany it. I like having the ability to create and assist in developing new ideas or processes that make my job more efficient.

A recent example of something I came up with had to do with the 401K plan tracking. Our 401K provider does not offer a tracking system that notifies me when employees have maxed out or how much Evolve has matched, etc. I designed a worksheet that does all the intricate calculations for me and gives me warnings that are built in as well. It’s proven to make my job a lot easier and more efficient.

What do you love most about working at Evolve? Do you think there are common characteristics among the people working at Evolve?

I love that Evolve promotes the balance of work and family. I feel like our well-being is always put first, and the work atmosphere is very positive. I enjoy my interaction with all the employees and feeling like a family unit.

Everybody seems to be working towards learning and sharing ideas. I also think everyone here assumes a positive intent and that we do not foster a blame culture. I always want to do my best, but I am not perfect and sometimes make mistakes. Here at Evolve, I know that those mistakes are seen as opportunities for learning, and it’s comforting to know that you can fail without ridicule.

Tell me about your proudest accomplishment since joining Evolve?

Probably when I was promoted to BP2 unexpectedly. It made me feel like my hard work and efforts were noticed and appreciated. I’ve always been a hard worker and try to do my best but when you see that you are truly appreciated, it makes you want to go above and beyond what’s required.

Are you a morning or night person and why?

Definitely a morning person. I start my mornings about 4am. I head out for work and get in an early morning workout before getting to work at 7am. I feel like that’s when I’m the most energetic. I think more clearly and I am in my most productive state of mind. However, up early does come with a cost—I’m in bed by 8pm!
