Weather Instruments

  • A Wind sock is a conical textile tube, which resembles a giant sock, designed to indicate wind direction and relative wind speed.
  • A Hydrometer measures the amount of water vapor in the air.
  • A sling Psychrometer measures wet bulb and dry bulb from which you can get temperature, dewpoint and relative humidity.
  • A Barometer┬ámeasures air pressure. It tells you whether or not the pressure is rising or falling. A rising barometer means sunny and dry conditions, while a falling barometer means stormy and wet conditions.

How do weather instruments help meteorologist determine weather?

Meteorologist use a variety of tools called weather instruments to help them gain information about weather and climate. They use patterns to make reasonable forecast that can be a week advance, by using computer models, observations, and trends.
