1 Samuel 17:37 - The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.
The dependent spirit is courageous (trusts God for deliverance)
1 Samuel 17:47 - All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.
The dependent spirit recognizes that human strength does not win battles. God does.
1 Samuel 24:5-6 - Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.
The dependent spirit is loyal to leadership... determined not to touch the Lord's anointed leader.
1 Samuel 25:32-33 - David said to Abigail, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me. May you be blessed for your good judgment and for keeping me from bloodshed this day and from avenging myself with my own hands.
The dependent spirit is teachable.
1 Samuel 26:10-11 - As surely as the Lord lives,” he said, “the Lord himself will strike him; either his time will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish. But the Lord forbid that I should lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.
The dependent spirit does not seek revenge, but entrusts judgement to God.
2 Samuel 6:14-15 - David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might, while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
The dependent spirit is free to worship without inhibitions.
2 Samuel 7:15-16 - But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me;your throne will be established forever.
The dependent spirit freely receives the Father's love.
2 Samuel 9:3 - The king asked, “Is there no one still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?”
Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is crippled in both feet.”
The dependent spirit reflects the Father's heart of mercy.
Psalm 23:1-3 - The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
The dependent spirit finds real rest for the soul in the Lord.
Psalm 19:8 - The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
The dependent spirit loves the Word of God.
Psalm 51:4 - Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
The dependent spirit is genuinely broken over sinning against God.
Psalm 3:1-4 - A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.
O Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” Selah But you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill.
The dependent spirit runs toward God for protection.
Psalm 18:1-2 - I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
