LGBT Rights

The LGBTTQQIAAP is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, pan-sexual or anyone else who is not non-heterosexual or non-cisgender.

The members of LGBTQ+ face series of hindrances among society including, but not limited to: general non-acceptance, high rates of suicide/depression, and even excessive amounts of hate crimes/assault. There are many LGBTQ+ organizations/connection groups and networks that strive for equal rights and opportunity simply because they are humans who deserve the same rights as others.

June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court deemed gay marriage to be a right protected by the US Constitution in all 50 states. In honor of this celebration, The White House was illuminated for the evening to exhibit it's pride in finally giving others to the ability to feel accepted/loved. 💕

Non Accepting Community: LGBTQ+ youth members live in a society that fundamentally hates them. They are constantly ridiculed for being themselves simply because most of society is ignorant. According to The National Human Rights Campaign, 4 in 10 LGBT Youth (42%) say the community in which they live in is non-accepting. The word "gay" is even used casually as a derogatory term/insult (NHRC).

One of the many partakers in the largest civil-rights march in the world- The Women's March on Washington. Rather than speaking out against prejudice against the LGBTQIA+, this particular individual is moved by the expression of civil acceptance.

Depression/Suicide Rates: Gay teens are about as sad as Eeyore. In recently study from Stonewall, UK's largest LGBT Rights Organization, and New York's PFLAG, gay teens are 8.4 times more likely to report having attempted suicide and "5.9 times more likely to report high levels of depression" compared to those who don't live in a household/general presentation of acceptance by which, as previously stated, roughly 4 in 10 do not.

The Human Rights Campaign works to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ humans worldwide by advocating for equal rights. They joined with The Trevor Project and other Human Rights Activist organizations to inform all of the LGBT's current statistics and key facts. To learn more, visit HRC.ORG

Hate Crimes Among the LGBTQ+ Community: Non-straight individuals are one of many social-minorities that are targeted for crimes motivated by their differences. This is probably because many are afraid of what they do not understand or- according to Llywodraeth Cymru Welsh Government Social Research- they possess a common psychological disorder that provides an "individual level of hostility to a victim’s social group"( LCWGS 30) They also state that it could be caused by a social-psychological condition, kinda like echopraxia, in which one is motivated simply because they were taught or they noticed that another was doing it. In 2015, The Federal Bureau of Investigation broke down the statistics of hate crimes (that were reported) and found that 17.7% were motivated by sexual orientation and 1.7% was by gender identity. There were 7,121 victims reported in the US (FBI)

Bathroom Controversy: The issue of transgendered individuals using the bathroom still remains active for some reason. Those with opposing views claim that allowing gender-neutral bathrooms will let sexual predators just say they're a transgender person with the right to use a women's bathroom and could easily gain access to potential victims. In the spirit of social progression. Editor-in-Chief for the Dobyns-Bennett Arrowhead staff, Davian Graninger, considers the "fear of discrimination for being in the perceived 'wrong bathroom' is very relevant with this sort of argument. As for others, conforming to the traditional binarism just isn't their cup of tea"

NYC Pride March in 8th Street and Fifth Avenue, July 2016

Rebuttal: In the spirit of social progression, the opposition refuses to coexist with any group outside of the gender binary because their lifestyles do not align with what is both inherently and (considered) explicitly conveyed in the platform of many major religions. Apparently in Leviticus or something, God condemns the 'choice' of being anything that isn't straight an abomination. With that being said, mild traditionalists choose to condemn the values related to the LGBTQIA+ community.
