Hate Crimes Among the LGBTQ+ Community: Non-straight individuals are one of many social-minorities that are targeted for crimes motivated by their differences. In 2015, The Federal Bureau of Investigation broke down the statistics of hate crimes (that were reported) and found that 17.7% were motivated by sexual orientation and 1.7% was by gender identity. There were 7,121 victims reported in the US (FBI)
