School Board Meeting November 13, 2017

School Board celebrates student success at this month's meeting.

The Zionsville Community Schools Board of Trustees met on Monday evening for their regular monthly meeting.

Following the approval of routine business items, ZCS Superintendent Scott Robison gave a report highlighting the outstanding achievements of many district students.

ZCHS State Champion Cross Country Team

Zionsville Community High School Principal Tim East took the podium and introduced ZCHS Girls Cross Country Coach, Suzanne Rigg, and the 2017 state championship team. Coach Rigg shared the highlights of the season in an emotional presentation. She said that Zionsville joins just eight other schools to be a state champion cross country team. She talked about the hard work and dedication it takes to rise to this level of athleticism. This is only the second ZCHS girls state championship in school history. The first was won by the girls golf team earlier this year.

2017 Indiana Outstanding High School Students of Spanish

ZCHS Spanish Teacher Lindsay Alessandrini recognized the 2017 Indiana Outstanding High School Students of Spanish, Cameron Harmon and Juliana Morell.

ZCHS Tennis Academic All-State Seniors

Earl Allen, Interim ZCHS Tennis Coach, had the honor of introducing five ZCHS seniors who were named Academic All-State Seniors. Coach Allen shared that these five students have an overall average G.P.A. of 4.4. All five seniors had a moment to share about their future plans and about what tennis has done for them during the course of their time in high school.

Pleasant View Elementary School National Blue Ribbon School

ZCS Superintendent, Dr. Scott Robison, and Board Vice President, Mr. Joe Stein, present National Blue Ribbon School Banner.

Dr. Robison and ZCS Board of Trustees Vice President Joe Stein presented the Pleasant View Elementary National Blue Ribbon School Award banner that was recently awarded at a ceremony in Washington D. C. Pleasant View Elementary School staff and students will celebrate this distinction at a program on December 1, 2017.

Preventure

Chief Academic Officer, Kris Devereaux, and ZCS Preventative Substance Abuse Task Force member, Dr. Nicole Fowler, asked the board to consider the implementation of the Preventure program which is aimed at reducing drug and alcohol abuse in high risk adolescents. They chose the Preventure program because it is research proven, recommended by the Surgeon General, and has strong alignment with the district’s Strong in Every Way initiative. The Preventure program will be funded by the Lilly Endowment Counseling Grant. The board unanimously approved the program.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the Board is Monday, December 11 at 6 p.m. at the Zionsville Community Schools Educational Services Center.
