It was lovely to see so many family members at last week’s achievement assembly. Just a reminder the library is available – to be used by younger siblings if they need to be taken out of assembly. This will enable all other parents to hear and celebrate their child’s achievements.
All assemblies take place at 2.50 pm and all parents/guardians are welcome to attend to celebrate the children’s work. This year classes will also be hosting celebration afternoons, during which parents will be invited into school to share and celebrate learning with their children. Watch out for further details from your child’s teacher.
If you have a younger child who is looking to join our school in September 2020, or you know someone else that does, we have two dates in the diary:
- Thursday 3 October at 6.30 pm
- Tuesday 8 October at 1.15 pm or 2.15 pm

Class attendance this week is:
A few red classes here, which isn’t great for this early in the year. Average attendance is 96%, which equates to only 7 days of absence per year. Our school figure last year was 96.75% - let’s try and beat that this year!

An amazing start to the new school football year for the Year 5/6 Boys’ Team. Two matches last night at the Soccerdome; the first against Ashleigh. A closely fought match but we came out on top winning 5:4 with Oliver shining as man of the match. In our second game the boys really found their goal scoring form beating St Cuthbert’s 10:1 with Zack demonstrating some excellent skills.
Thank you to Mr Clegg and Mr Bulcock for organising, attending and supporting the lads.
Parked cars and smoking
We have received a couple of requests from parents to ask other parents and/or adults that collect children to be considerate in terms of where they park. The yellow lines are there for a good reason and I am sure we all want all of our children to be safe. Also, I have been told that some adults are smoking near school entrances and I would ask that any person collecting children refrain from doing so as this is harmful to us all. Thank you.
Friends of Avondale (PTFA)
