LGA NEWS EDITION 06, DATE: 04 December 2020

It has been an incredibly sad week as we begin to come to terms with the tragic sudden death of Chase Angus.

Chase was a student known by many at Lord Grey and was a friendly and gregarious boy who was well liked by staff and students. He loved sport, was a talented footballer and was proud to be chosen to be part of a school boxing club. He will be greatly missed by all of us in the Lord Grey community.

I have been heartened to see how well our students and staff are supporting one another, showing genuine care and concern for each other at this difficult time. This sense of community is a great strength here at Lord Grey and I am certain that it will help us navigate through the grief that students and staff will experience.

Jim Parker, Principal.

Enterprise Challenge

In March this year, teams from the then Year 9 took part in the Tenner Enterprise Challenge. With start-up funds of just £10, they created micro-businesses and raised money for the academy and local charities. They sold sweets, washed cars, made bath bombs and smoothies as well as holding a raffle. Unfortunately, the grade finale was scuppered by the first Lockdown. We're still really proud of our young entrepreneurs though, and want to take this opportunity to congratulate them on stepping up and doing so well.

Labour Market Information

Things are still pretty gloomy on the employment front. November's labour market statistics show the economy still suffering from the spring/summer lock down and unemployment is at the highest it's been since 2016. Young people have been taking the brunt of this, with youth employment down by 300k. Advice to young people is to check out potential employers very carefully, and have more than one option. A college course is a great safety-net to an apprenticeship, for example.
