What happened to the Aboriginal people when the English people took over? By Ashton petris

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE?

Imagine that one day when strangers break into your home and told you to leave. They threaten you and tell you to go away. They kill you if you come back for food or water and you and your family gets sick because the people who came had terrible diseases. You or your friends and family have nowhere to live and you have no food or water. What would you do?

That is what happened to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people because the British people came in their country. The British people did this because they wanted to put the convicts in another place. The British people arrived in 1788. The arrival changed the Indigenous Australians' lives forever.

WHY DID THE ENGLISH PEOPLE TAKE OVER?

The Royal Navy Officer back then was called Captain Arthur Phillip and he ambushed Australia because he wanted to bring 1,500 convicts (prisoners) overseas to Australia because he wanted to make more prisons and a community there.

DO THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE STILL NOT LIKE ENGLISH PEOPLE?

Much later, in the 1950’s when the Australians had invented electricity, they asked if they wanted to live in civilization but the Aboriginal people refused they said that nature is their god. The Australian Government kidnapped the Aboriginal children because they wanted to give education to the young Aboriginal children. The older Aboriginal people found out quickly and got really mad. The Australian Government accepted that they were wrong. So now, even if your an eighth Aboriginal, the Australian Government wil give you some money when you leave home to make your own life. The word 'Aboriginal People' was named by the English people when they took over Australia in 1788.

DID THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE TAKE REVENGE?

  1. Yes they did, it was a war called the Black War.

The Black War in Tasmania was one of the bloodiest wars ever in Australia. It was a war of the English people against the Aboriginal people. The war happened because Aboriginal people had had enough of the English people ruling over them. It was a war that the Aboriginal people couldn’t win, it was spears against guns. The Black War went from the 1820's to 1832.

WHY DO THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE NOT LIKE AUSTRALIA DAY?

The Aboriginal people don’t like Australia Day because that was the day the English people took over Australia. The people from Australia celebrate Australia Day because that was the day the Australians got their own country. Australia Day is not celebrated by every Australian. Some Australians think it’s rude for Aboriginal people and it is reminding them of things they want to forget. Many Aboriginal people call it Survival Day or Invasion Day because their ancestors in those days had to try not to die. And the Aboriginal people find it rude how they're celebrating that.

ARE THE AUSTRALIAN PEOPLE ALLOWED TO BUILD OVER ABORIGINAL SACRED SIGHTS?

No, the Australian people are not allowed to do that because the Aboriginal people say it is like taking away their god. So every time Australian people want to build a place in Aboriginal Territory, they have to ask the Aboriginal people if they can build there
