written in 1968, its one of Sam Cookes most famous songs along with "cupid" ,"chain gang", and "wonderful world". in the song Sam talks about how a change needs to happen, i believe this change has to do with civil rights especially because he grew up in Mississippi and he talks about having a hard life and being discriminated
