Walk the Block walking it out with community development

On Saturday, May 21st, the Community Development Department teamed up with community partners in the East Bluff and South Peoria to kick off the first year of the Walk the Block initiative.

The goal of Walk the Block is to build stronger community relationships and stomp out crime, all while getting a daily dose of exercise.

Volunteers arrived bright and early at the Proctor Recreation Center and the East Bluff Community Center to set up for the kickoff event. The Unity Point Health Methodist | Proctor Wellmobile was on site at both events offering free health screenings to all interested residents.
Ready, set, WALK!
Everyone who made a pledge to walk the block each week received a booklet with weekly slips to be entered in to a bi-weekly drawing for more prizes.
A big shout out to all of our community partners who helped make Walk the Block a reality: the Innovation Team (i-team), Peoria City/County Health Department, Proctor Recreation Center, East Bluff Community Center and the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC).

Thanks to the participants from the East Bluff and South Peoria the first annual Walk the Block event was a success.
