ImpOrtance of tHe papacy Michael MacInnes

The papacy spans from the time from peter to present day. It was influenced by the rulers surrounding the Italian peninsula. The papacy consolidated its terrorial claims to a portion of the peninsula.

It is upheld today in the Roman Catholic Church, developed over the course of centuries, in reaction to challenges made against exercises of authority by popes.
Matt. 16:19 only Peter receives the keys, which represent authority over the Church and facilitate dynastic succession to his authority-peter is the head of the church
The Second Vatican council differs from the the first Vatican council reemphasized that all the bishops and authority is from the pope.
