Jessica and Anya

It's all happening at Greenfields! This week saw the formal appointment of Jessica and Anya as Greenfields' Pet Ambassadors. They are responsible for grooming, walking, trick training and playing with Maeve. They take their responsibilities very seriously and treat Maeve extremely well and kindly. And, she definitely seems to love them back!

Also, the builders have finished installing the magnificent play equipment in the Key Stage One playground. I am looking forward to formally cutting the ribbon to open it on Monday (weather permitting) and letting the Key Stage 1 bubbles have time to play on it. Don't worry Key Stage 2 - I'm sure there will be times organised for you too!

You'll see further down the newsletter that class points are now being totalled each week and the treat basket (that used to be for attendance) is awarded to the class with the greatest total each Friday morning. Children are awarded points for moving up the traffic lights and being on the moon (1 point) or star (2 points) at the end of the day, for reading 5 times a week and logging it (5 points), and for completing homework (1 point). Children can move up the traffic lights for any number of positive reasons including being courageous or ambitious in their learning, aspiring to doing really well or being respectful. The points earned across each house will also be tallied each week - everyone can play their part!

Have a lovely weekend.

Super Scientist in Meerkats!

This week, our Super Scientist is the wonderful Grace. She has really impressed us with her super scientific thinking, teamwork and incredible questioning of key scientific ideas.

"Earth to Reception"

This week Reception have learnt about planets and the solar system, They have been designing their very own paper mache solar system. They look fantastic.

Live Learning in Year 4/5

Year Four and Five had a bit of a rocky start to the week when, on Monday, the children and some of the adults went into isolation.

Luckily, our learning just carried on online! We have so many children that are completely dedicated to their learning, whether it be at school or home: the staff from Remarkable Rhinos, Champion Cheetahs and Super Sharks are absolutely grateful for this. Children have been learning live on TEAMS and it has been wonderful to see so many of them joining in. The children have been singing, battling each other in times tables, reading and so much more. Just take a look at some of the pictures below to see the quality of the work being produced.

We look forward to next week and hope to see even more Rhinos, Cheetahs and Sharks online!

You can see everyone online in 'Together' mode

Two by Two

Year Two have been learning how to divide by 2 this week. They answered word problems all about sharing sweets, so they decided to share real sweets to help them!

Super Maths in Busy Bees

This week in Busy Bees the children have been learning about adding two amounts together linked with the topic of 'Whatever Next', using bears in rockets to work out their answers for completing a calculation. They have done really well in learning this concept in maths. Super Maths, Busy Bees.

Spanish Meerkats

This term, Marvellous Meerkats have been enjoying building on their Spanish speaking skills. To help them, they have relied on the use of educational technology, namely Chatterpix. This is a great piece of technology that makes learning super fun and can be used to support children's learning inside and outside of the classroom. Have a look at some of our pupils' creations during their Spanish lessons by viewing our class by clicking on the button below.

Dragonflies Explore Space

Dragonflies have enjoyed exploring their space topic . They have made and painted planets, built rockets and space buggies. They have written about what they might take to space and used rockets in their maths lessons. What super learning, Dragonflies!

We can do this Greenfields!

Excellent Elephant Commentator

Sywell Aerodrome recently hosted the Amateur display commentators competition which was run by Blades Aerobatic display team and the RAF Benevolent fund.

Logan from Excellent Elephants entered the commentators competition and won the 11 and under category. Logan is a regular visitor to Sywell Aerodrome and enjoys watching the Blades flying. When his mum, Kati asked him how he felt about being nominated, he said: ‘‘I was shocked and then I felt fantastic. I’m very, very excited!” Well done Logan!

Santa Run

After being a huge success in 2019, we are excited to announce we will be hosting the second annual DRET Santa Run, raising money for the Inspiration Fund, on Wednesday 16th December and we would love to see all our pupils and staff to take part!

Last year over 2,700 staff and students across the Trust took part and raised an incredible amount of money for the Inspiration Fund, which provides the broad range of amazing enrichment opportunities for our students in sport, music, culture and arts.

How does it work?

We will be organising a 20 minute fun run on the school site to finish off the calendar year in style! This will be carried out safely and in school bubbles.

The run will be a sponsored event to raise money for our Inspiration Fund and the amount you raise will determine what you’ll receive to run in on the day, and then keep afterwards.

Raise £5 in sponsorship money and receive a Santa hat to run in

Raise £10 or more and receive a full Santa suit (including beard)

Raise £15 or more and get a suit and Santa medal

Sponsorship

This year, there is the option for sponsorship to be raised through a unique sponsorship page online or using the paper sponsorship forms.

The new online sponsorship page is COVID safe, meaning you don’t need to knock on doors or visit other homes, sees money processed electronically, removing the need for cash, and can be easily shared on social media platforms, text and email. It’s never been easier to raise sponsorship! An information sheet on this can be found overleaf. A step by step guide for this is attached. Click here to set up your sponsorship page:

If you choose to use the paper sponsorship forms, please complete and return, along with collected money, by Friday 27th November 2020 so we can get the Santa suits and medals ordered.

The fastest student and top fundraiser at the school will also receive a plaque, and the top two fundraisers across the Trust will receive a special music, sport or art related prize for their school! Last year, the school with the highest fundraiser bought a smart speaker to allow music to be played throughout the whole school!

Gift Aid: We are able to claim gift aid on all donations with the donator’s permission. This can add a considerable amount to our fundraising total, so please tick for Gift Aid on the sponsorship if you are a UK Tax payer.

Inspiration Fund

The Inspiration Fund enables the David Ross Education Trust to provide our students with an incredible variety of enrichment opportunities across sport, music and the arts as well as cultural activities which we would otherwise be unable to offer. We believe exposing our pupils to these opportunities not only enhances their academic performance, but also ensures each pupil has access to a world class education which broadens their horizons for life beyond school.

As an example, our school and pupils have benefitted from the Inspiration Fund in a number of ways, including: DRET Farm visits, Voices Foundation training and support, sports events incl. Olympic athlete visits, school clubs, masterclasses, All Star Choir, Debating Club and completion (which Greenfields won in 2019), dance festivals, Shakespeare festival and many more.

We look forward to receiving your sponsorship form by Friday 27th November and are very much looking forward to seeing as many Santa runners as we can on Wednesday 16th December 2020.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Life Education Bus

We are so excited to let you know that we will be welcoming The Life Education Centre back into school for 4 days, beginning the week of Monday 23rd November. This has always been a very popular event with the children and is both practical and educational. Each class will have a visit from the ‘life educator’, where they will meet Harold the Giraffe and learn all about how to keep their bodies fit and healthy in a workshop delivered by The Life Education Group. This will be an invaluable addition to what we already teach and is the perfect addition to our Jigsaw puzzle, Healthy Me!

Please make a contribution of £4.50 towards the cost of the visit by Friday 20th November. These fantastic enrichment opportunities rely on payment from all families in order for them to go ahead. This is an exciting opportunity for our children, and we are extremely grateful for your support in enabling this event to go ahead.

Please see the attached leaflet from The Life Education Centre, which details exactly what is covered in sessions for each year group.

As I am sure you are aware, changes will need to be made so that the visit is Covid safe. As a result, this year’s visit will take place in the classroom rather that the Life Education Bus.

Please speak to your child’s class teacher with any questions/concerns you may have.

Many thanks in advance.

September 2021 Reception Intake

If you have a child turning 4 years old between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, you need to apply for their place to start in Reception in September 2021.

Greenfields Primary School and Nursery is now rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and as with all outstanding schools the popularity of the school increases. With this in mind, we are expecting to be oversubscribed in our admissions for a place in our Reception class in September 2021. This means that we will not have enough places for the number of children applying and some families will be disappointed and not be allocated Greenfields. More information on admissions can be found on our website

The application process is now available on the Northamptonshire County Council website: click on the button below to apply for place at Greenfields. The closing date is Thursday 21st January 2021.

If your child is currently attending our nursery and is due to start in our Reception next year, then we do not want you to be disappointed and miss out on a place. You must submit an application before the closing date as places are NOT automatically allocated.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact our school office.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is where you will find Greenfields' amazing virtual classrooms full of chat and lots of hard work! If you have not used Google Classroom before, or you are new to Greenfields, please follow this link that explains how to log on to a PC, Android or Apple device. You will need your child’s email address and password, and the class codes below:

Class Code and Google Link

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.

.

Just a quick COVID reminder

Please help us keep the school and its community safe by:

  • Following the one-way system
  • Wearing a face covering when you are on the school grounds
  • Limiting the number of adults picking up children to 1. If you have a teenager, or partner who is currently dropping off/picking up with you, please ask them to remain off-site.
